I cannot see how this 'law' is any more cruel to women than it is to men. It reduces the options for both sexes. Even if there are more sisters than brothers, if they are all less attractive and less interesting than the 'girl next door' who is out-of-bounds, it is still no choice. Same for the girls - if there are less men available in the circuit, but none of them widens her pupils, then there might as well be none.

High Profile Case: Seeking Reinstatement
by headisspinning inbut our situation is very difficult and quite high profile.... i was raised as a jw and my mother was very strict and abusive.
i got baptized at age 14.. my mother actually called on my (present) husband's mom in service.
she was on the initial call resulting in his mom coming in the truth and him being raised in it from about age 8 or 9.. despite a very abusive step-father, he followed his mom's lead and came into the truth.

I agree with tec
"But Christ said: "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?" "
You were not shown real love, because as soon as you appeared to break the rules the 'love' vanished. Love does not behave this way.
For as long as you justify the organisation in your minds you will continue to be hurt.
I have to say, if the Elders block your return, as they plan, they will be doing you a great favor. From what you have been saying, you still need more time to see all this for what it really is.

"I'm not struggling with our beliefs... I am struggling with the way imperfect people are treating us. So far, I have been able to keep the two separate in my mind."
I know the feeling...most JW's do this. They read one thing in the Watchtower, see something totally different in the congregations and put it down to the imperfection of men. But think about this - these attitudes pervade the organisation - it is not just local to you - I don't even know what country you are in - but it is throughout the congregations.
Ask yourself why there is little real genuine supporting love there. And ponder on the scriptures that say it is an identifying mark of Jesus' disciples. Lack of love = not Jesus' real disciples - - -it really is that simple.
In fact, the Org. claims that the way you are being treated right now IS AN ACT OF LOVE! They say it is to bring you to your senses and to save you spiritually in the long run. But you have asked for reinstatement and I assume you also feel 'repentant' for anything that may be considered wrongdoing in the past. So in what way is continuing shutting you out an act of love? It's not, is it?
I know no matter how many times people may tell you this, until you see it for yourself it will have no impact. JWs are trained to disregard all advice not coming from the GB. And that training works well. I hope one day you can overcome it and your eyes open. The truth will set you free, but of the 'Truth'.

You still believe it is the truth and you don't want to think about 'apostate' stuff. I understand...what you want is to be back in good standing with the congregation, with God and with your friends and family.
Unfortunately that can never happen.
Even if you are reinstated, you will still be badly treated by many and there will always be gossip behind your back. You have already experienced it, and it is not going to stop just because you get reinstated. The fact is, it will 'take years' to get reinstated because they don't want you back.
Please compare this with the parable of the prodigal son and this scripture:
'By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another'. John 13:35
Ask yourselves honestly if there is love there - if you realize that there is not, then you can already know that it is not the 'truth' after all. You cannot reason that this is just that they are imperfect but the organisation is good...the scripture specifically says the disciples would have love for one another.
And once you start to realize that this is not the 'truth' at all, then lots of other things will become clearer too.
Good luck to you both. I really hope for the sake of your child that you come to realize that all this religion will do is bring you both pain, and ultimately it could ruin the life of your child too. No true religion should be like that, and that's not me saying so, it's in your bible.

DAY of DOOM: Armageddon Comes for the WatchTower--- April 5, 2011
by cameo-d inmy speculation comes from something that conspiracy theorists know as an illuminati ritual called "revelation of method".
it is when symbols and indications are given ahead of time, (revealed in movies, television shows, etc.
) of something that is planned.

"The number 7 represents completion."
I always accepted without question the JW interpretation of numbers, 7 for heavenly completion. 6 for earthly imperfection, 10 for...well you get the idea. Now I question everything they ever taught me. I don't think the GB has any special insight or pre-knowledge. It is all a fantasy.

"Join us now and you can be happy in marriage forever..." they say. Actually marital unhappiness within the congregation is very common.
"FIND A PERSON WHO HAS LIMITED DATING EXPERIENCE, PURE, WHOLESOME,..." - perhaps it is just cynical me, but I saw that as 'find someone you can easily fool"...
Finally, you can search for a same sex partner! Yes, Men looking for Men, haha so at least a gay pioneer does not have to go to Bethel to meet his dream date any more.
And before someone says, yes I can see that it is not actually run by JWs, though I would expect quite a few members don't realize it, with that domain name.
Anyways, got any suggestions for someone writing their theocratic profile??? I look forward to your replies...

WTS: creative days took aeons - WT Feb 15th, 2011
by undercover inthere's already a couple of threads discussing this particular issue of kool-aid version of the wt, but i just had to start another after reading about the creative days mentioned in this issue.. we debate from time to time if the wts has ever officially retracted their doctrine that the earth and all things created are less than 50,000 years old.
there's been some quotes that show them waffling on the age of the planet itself but still sort of holding to the notion of all creation happening within a defineable 7 day period.
how long is a creative day?

shepherd
Oh I remember the 7000 year creative day belief. And when the evidence against that was overwhelming the JWs would say that carbon dating was inaccurate and used by evolutionist scientists to justify their non-biblical views.....I will never really understand why I was so gullible......

" I became aware of how crafty the false teachers were. Information taken out of context was their ‘strong evidence’"
This is just the usual mind manipulation - accuse the opposition of exactly the same thing they accuse you of and one cancels out the other.
The good news is, despite all these warnings, JW's still come to sites like this and more and more are learning that they have been tricked. The Emperor GB really does not wear any clothes after all!
The Internet is one reason that, since 1995 only 10 000 more JW's are active in the UK (125 000, now 135 000) which represents an increase average of just 666 a year. (Yeah funny it was THAT number :))
As any honest JW will admit, that is almost entirely an internal increase, from kids and other family members.
The more the GB warns its flock not to listen to, read or view anything about them that they did not write themselves, the more that alerts open-minded JW's that something is wrong!
