It's truly sad to see so many young ones lost today, and losing respect for themselves.

End shunning or lose tax free status
by kneehighmiah inwhich would the watchtower choose if it came down to this in the united states or europe?
losing tax free status would mean losing millions of dollars.
ending shunning means people would leave by the boatloads.

Canada did pull the Charitable status funding of a religious group last year. It was the PTL network. It was initiated due to their stand on Homosexuality. Apparently, the group would not offer help in Africa to those that were gay.

Ray Franz - is he REALLY a hero?
by baltar447 inon one hand, he's enlightnened many to the internal circle jerk that is the governing body (circa the 70s).. but if there's one reason that can be pointed to for the jws becoming full on cult, it's ray franz.
without him leaving in the manner he did, and stirring the pot, they might not have change the rule (retroatively i might add) on shunning of disassociated ones.
they specifically changed that so they could remove him and eliminate his influence.. his actions single handedly have created the situation where we have to fade, evade, leave marriages, say goodbye to family, just because we don't buy the jw bullsh!t anymore.

Suav: It probably was in 1987. I took some bad acid in the 60's, and it puts my mind in a different time zone. I occasionally get flashbacks, but the dates are distorted.

A hero shows courage in the face of adversity. Ray did this. He exposed and opened the boardroom discussions in the inner private sacred rooms of JW land. He risked losing his friends, relatives, a comfortable life. It takes a big man to admit his mistakes, and involvements with how those mistakes affected the lives of others. The mid 70's had other heros, so many and their names escape me.
I read COC in 1977, and it opened my eyes. I didn't read his 2nd book. One book was all I needed to ground me back to earth.

QFR August 15, 2014 - Resurrection and Marriage
by wisdomfrombelow inthe article addressed luke 20:34-36 and now they finally admit jesus could have been referring to the heavenly resurrection.
they said "put simply, the answer is that we cannot say" which is surprising because they have something to say about everything.
perhaps all the old people who are waiting the new world as widow and widowers want to know if they have a chance to be reunited with their dead loved one.

Well, now maybe they'll admit that disfellowshipping is wrong.
