What really is a basic education? Is it becoming an Accountant? Is it becoming a mechanic, millwright, carpenter, nurse, technician? Doesn't some of these professions require college?
beware of the logical fallacy in the first sentence, not to mention all the loaded language.. .

someone who works at a college locally, pointed out to me that one of their scholar students was stocking shelves at a dollar store.. with this recession, are you finding that higher learning is wasting time?
.
i know that it's necessary to become a dr. or a lawyer, but, with the shortage of work, even teachers are working as secretarys.. what do you think?.
Thanks, Snare and a Racket. I have already worked in the world for close to 40 yrs. I did take some advanced courses at a College when they were telling me not to, because 1975 was very soon in coming.
Because of my smart move back then, I can retire with a great pension. The ones that told me not to, are still worrking.
Back then, the training was almost 100% successful....I'm not seeing that right now. I do understand the knowledge advantages, and how interesting it could be.
Billy, thanks for your comments. It sounds like it will work out for you. I know what challenges you faced when you left the Bethel scene. You are to be commended.
Appreciated all your comments, friends.

Wow, $100,000 is a large debt to pay back if your income may not sustain that debt repayment. This must be quite the burden for someone starting out in life.
I remember the days when the government provided education, and learning skills for students for free or subsidized.

Yes, I agree, Knowsnothing. But, after fixing the world, and receiving the Nobel Peace prize..what can you do after that? How much do you get for winning that?

No, Mrs Jones. That's not my point. I believe anyone should be free to pursue what they want to do in life, and to work hard to acheive it.
Some have done very well with the school of hard knocks, as well as attending University, and College.
My point, the education dream is failing some.
