  crazyguy... and I am a child of those 80's. I remember hearing stupid shit like "1935" and wondering where that was in the bible... obviously never getting an answer. Even though I got out sooner then some I wish I would have had the courage to get out sooner than I did

  Everyone one with kids in this cult.... Know this.... The propaganda is excellently prepared for your children. My mother did not hit me hard with the end of the world shit but it was preached at the kingdom hall non-stop. I grew up KNOWING that armageddon was coming before I turned 20. It greatly hampered my opportunities as a young child and also as a teen and young adult. It took me 30 years to get the courage to say enough is enough. If you have young kids it is imperative to get your kids out... even if it is at the expense of your "friends" and other family members. Your relationship with your mother or father or grandma or grandpa is a distant 3rd place to getting yourself and your kids out.

  having now been out of the cult for a few years, it really shocks me about some of the nonsense i used to believe in.

  like for instance, christ ruling in the midst of his enemies, but doing so invisibly.. let's let that one sink in for a minute.

  Hey banana...

  Was at one of the mega churches last week. Just staring at what an impressive structure and logistics its takes to get these things built. I couldnt help but thinking about all the people, energy, needless suffering and all the money.... throughout history that has been expended in the name of religion. For an unprovable deity that does not intervene in our lives at all.

  Oh well... gotta spend the lives, time and money somehow eh?

  as a newly awoken individual, i have yet to "come out" to my hard core jdub parents.

  my plan was to lay low and use my unbelieving husband and baby as an excuse for my "inactivity", it has worked for the last few months.

  at the latest co visit something very strange happened.

  during the meeting with the elders and servants he passed out a copy of a hypothetical publisher card and asked us what we could learn from it.

  upon receiving it i saw that the average hours were pretty good, it had return visits and quite a few bible studies.

  i was invited to a small get-together by a long time friend.

  we both served as elders for years.

  he is in his late 70s.

  I am in the age range of 30's & 40's. This is completely anecdotal but I wasted enough of my life being raised in this cult, no way I was going to subject myself and my children to any more of this shit. Some of the older ones have way too much invested in family and friends, they already indoctrinated their children and developed conditional lifelong relationships that would be very difficult although not impossible to start over.

  It would be interested to hear reasons for staying / reasons for leaving for people in this age group.

  being raised a catholic we had lots of crosses around the house.

  when my family converted to this cult they were all removed and destroyed in case they had demons in them lol but at this juncture in my life i do not even know if jesus as the way he is portrayed in the bible was real.

  yes a man named jesus did live and die 2000 years ago and probably on a cross but he was definitely not the son of god.

  I thought there was a scan of the entire source material that the S.I book took out of context explaining that the "stauros" was indeed a stake or pole. The dubs jumped all over this because it did appear to back up their claims. The entire quote goes on to talk about how it was most likely that another pole was attached to the stake to make the "t" shape.

  WTBTS quote mines the shit out of anything they can to back up their claims.

  On a serious side though... I had a buddy whos parents converted when he was about 14 or 15 years old. Even as a born in myself i remember thinking how much that would suck to have all the cool things that worldly kids had and then to lose them just like that. He bought into it though and is still a card carrying member. Glad you were able to gtfo.
