the jehovah's witnesses are allowed to set up a display and man it right outside of the local library, and they are there every day and hour the library is open.
i am [redacted], the director of the douglas county library system and wanted to respond to your website email of december 11, 2015. i have consulted with the county attorneys office about your concern about jehovahs witnesses use of the front porch of the library building in roseburg, and my understanding of the law is as follows.. .

I would seriously doubt they are using hate speech. From what I understand they dont really talk unless spoken to. Why not bring up gay marriage and have a discussion with them about it right in the public square? Let them sound ridiculous in front of people passing by.

By making a blanket statement that this "does not work" ignores that we really cant say for certain how each individual is affected by this man's actions. It is possible that one person in that hall already had doubts about 1914. Hearing someone else (even if not in the "proper" way) express doubts about that may help such a person.

How would you like me to prove the negative that this WILL not work. That is more certain then you and I can be. I am saying the possibility is open that it could work. People who are thin skinned and looking to be offended and yell apostate will always be thin skinned looknig to be offended and ready to yell "apostate" Fuck those people, they will (or will not) wake up when they are ready. If this dude stood up and said "toast the generation of 1914" then jerked off in the wine glass and then smashed the glass over a 90 year old grandmother's head, I would agree that would not be the way to go. He didnt. He promoted himself, left the bldg in less then 2 minutes and went about his merry way.

azor, we are all activists to a point. You can and hope do to the small group that you have influence over. The journey of a thousand miles starts with a raindrop or something like that. It takes all kinds and I hope that everyone here participates in the level of civil disobedience that they are comfortable with.

I agree with most on here that these methods have little chance of causing change in tthe minds of die hard dubs. I am not even saying I would use this kind of "attention seeking narcissistic behaviour".
I get it, many on here are trying to wean themselves off the jw tit, slowly and painfully, trying to get their uber dub relatives out slowly and painfully. Seriously though, at the end of the day, fuck the hardcore dubs. They made their bed and they can sleep in it. I have a limited sphere of influence and I tailor it to each person that I interact with. THERE IS NO ONE SIZE FITS ALL!
Being raised in this church is damaging. If this is therapy for them and its non violent then yes, they are doing it for themselves to help themselves. If it happens to offend your 90 year old grandma at least the end is right around the corner so she wont be offended for long.

This exact thread was blown up within the last year. While this type of in your face activisim is not for most people, who knows the impact this could have in a month, one year or 10 years down the road.
The older, trapped dubs are dyed in the wool. "Mentally Diseased, Mentally Diseased!!" They will always be extremely difficult to get out. Curious, rebellious young teens with a school issued chromebook can jump on the internet and look at what these "crazy fools" are talking about. If it helps one kid get out its worth it.
