22I need help understanding my moms decision!
by Holzy86 infirst of all i'm not a jahovas witness, my mother is.
i've asked my mother for some help over the weekend for my sons birthday, i understand jw do not celebrate birthdays.. every year i take my son out for a treat day, this year he has asked me if he can bring friends too so i said i only have enough room for one but he has asked for two, so i said i will ask nanny if she will help out to take my other son in her car with my netphew and older sister, but as soon as i mentioned it was for a birthday treat she refused to help me.. i just need to know if jahovahs witnesses will refuse to help family out when asking for help, i feel i've asked and made sure all the people she will be giving a lift to that it is not there birthday.
his birthday has just happened to have fallen on the weekend when we would have been taking him because he is at school monday to friday.

The right appeals to hate and the left appeals to emotion. See, I can do it too.
Just because someone disagrees with a particular stance does not mean they are racist or appealing strictly to emotion.
Every government cut comes at the end of a cost/benefit analysis. You wont like this cut and I wont like that cut. You can not like the decision to build a wall but it is not difficult to argue that it is directly related to border security and immigration which is a primary function of our federal government.
What I don't like about the entire health insurance debate is that its not our federal governments place to mandate that all Americans have health insurance. Now, the argument is going to be about what can our politicians do to "fix" obamacare when it should not be a law in the first place.
Nothing happens in a vacuum. If/when trump fucks up, we as a society will try, try again.

Feeling the Guilt
by Saethydd ini'm currently disfellowshipped and living at home with my parents, but because they are both still devout jws i have to keep going to the meetings and crap because i don't want to risk getting thrown out until i finish college or find a job that will let me support myself and go to college.. yesterday, my mother rode with me to the meeting and told me how much my best friend and my oldest sister are missing me, and it just tears me apart because during the meeting i was practically counting the minutes till it was over.
it didn't help matters that i had to sit with my family because the library was closed off, thus forcing me to follow along with the meeting on my tablet instead of reading something useful or interesting like i normally do.. when i got home i just cried out in frustration because it feels like no matter what i do, i am making the wrong choice.
either i have to keep pretending to support an organization that has caused so much pain to so many people, or i have to abandon my family and friends to it so i can save myself.

Please remember, you are not abandoning your family. It is the other way around. They have trained you well.
I envy you because you have managed to see thru the bs long before I did. Plan your getaway, tomorrow is coming. It will be difficult to leave because starting to be truly self reliant is not easy but it is worth it.

I am not sure how this thread is even being read by various people.... you know, with this crazy president we have who has access to the nuclear codes and will set them off all willy nilly. Frankly, I am surprised that the entire media has not been shut down yet. In fact, shouldn't we all be living under the after affect of a nuclear holocaust by now?
When you shout "the sky is falling" for the better part of the last two years, it just gets tiring to hear anymore. Your duly elected government reps are doing everything they can to thwart him... hell, even my duly elected reps are trying to thwart him.

Scotty, I am not an anti jw at all costs kind of a person. Jdubs have a right to believe and teach their children what they want.
I think these kind of protests are more of an example of people "taking power back" from a group then trying to wake people up. (I am speaking as a born in) There is no valid argument that we born ins were not marginalized and lied to for many years.
As far as this video, if i remember it correctly the guy drank the wine, said a few words promoting his website and then left. When he did that he gave up his invitation to be there and then left. All in all, it was about 3 minutes from when he stood up to when he left. Your mum being offended is a minor consequence if this helped him break the last few strands of his mental bondage to this group.
I know if my mom had been there, she would have felt a distinct sense of shame that what he was speaking was the truth. Thats only because I have refused to allow my family to shun me and have partially woken up them up. They still choose to be a part of the group but that is their right.

You cant have free will w/out the consequences. Yes you can stay in if you want. The consequences are not being true to your inner knowledge that the church is a lie. You can leave if you want. The consequences are that your friends and family will most likely not talk to you. You can not like the consequences or you could love them but you have the right and the ability to make the choice.
When you pick up the stick, you pick up both ends of that stick.

If the org is in control then how does anyone ever leave? Because of free will. When i had kids I could have stuck my head in the sand and just went along. I made the conscious choice to leave. So can any adult sitting in that hall.

That is 100% true. dubs are not forced. They simply feel that their relationship with their church is more important than their relationship with you.
Its easier to blame someone else then the real culprit... you (if you decide to stay in)
