One of these things is not like the others...

DaCheech: i thought revelation prophecy predicted that ALL OTHER religions would be destroyed first?
That's right!
The bible says that Babylon the Great will be destroyed first and then, as an afterthought, the wild beast will turn it's attention toward the seemingly defenseless remaining brothers of Christ, headed up by a small committee of men living in a tower in New York City, USA. Says so right there in the bible. The JW will absolutely NOT be on the front lines of this outbreak against religion.
It would have been helpful had the article stated the reasons for the Russian decision. Perhaps their reasons are described in some other news source. To be certain, the GB will not convey the particulars to the rank and file. The illusion of persecution must be maintained.
i need to speak to anyone who is a mature christian.
someone who has maintained their faith in jehovah and in christ jesus.
i have felt that many things i have been taught are inconsistent for some time.
Jojojunfan, "welcome to the ark." I heard that in a baptismal talk a few years back. Makes more sense here. I think your attitude is great:
1) Love the lowly ones in my congregation 2) do my best 3) be a real friend, and the most important, Obey GOD as ruler, rather than men.
Being confused, not having all the answers is not a bad thing. It's part of the process. Enjoy it!
Congratulations on your stated determination to maintain your Christian identity.
... meeting in homes?
i have begun having occasional evening get-togethers with a baptist couple.
they are lovely people.
Sorry for the delay in responding.
Crofty, I am about 250 miles from Chattanooga, TN. Don't know how much further to the choo-choo. :)
PenelopePaige, I am exactly in Greenville, SC - about center of the map I posted above.
I selected an area around where I live that is within about a three-hour drive from my home, give or take. At that distance visits would hardly be a regular occurrence, of course, but it's doable from time to time.
My roomie has also expressed a desire to meet former witnesses who are still determined to maintain their Christian identity. She has voiced that desire a few times.
i was shocked to hear how the slander against jehovah's name that we see in the world can be compared to a good man accused of being a child molester.
he went on to describe how terrible such an accusation would be, and how "friends" of the accused would know he's not capable of such an act and would rally to his defense.
at several points in the talk, he refers back to the child molester "example" and how eventually, despite the hideous slander heaped on a man in this situation (depicting jehovah in the bigger picture, we assume), that man's good reputation would be restored.
Yeah, that sounds like thought preparation. How sickening.
I always wondered wether or not the boys at the top really thought they were doing the right thing, like Ray Franz mentioned in his books. But things like this make it pretty clear they know exactly what they're up to and have no shame about it... no depths to which they will not sink.
Using Jehovah's name to cover their own butts...mmm...mmm...mmm.
quote from another thread i didn't want to derail:.
i too like blondie was shunned as an elders wife for whatever reason i have as yet to understand, it happened even when i was pioneering.
you never know what law you might break to tick someone off in that religion and how long you will be shunned.
A true Christian woman would bring her own coffee cup... duh!

... meeting in homes? I have begun having occasional evening get-togethers with a Baptist couple. I like them. They are lovely people. I will continue associating with them regardless, but I miss associating with people who are more in line with my understanding of the bible.
I seem to remember Ray Franz saying something similar about this in one of his books. I have learned not to be so dogmatic in what I hold to be "truth", but I would like to hang out with people who are a little closer in bible understanding.
transsexualism is a word appearing with growing frequency in the news.
a transsexual is not merely a transvestite (one who dresses in clothes of the opposite sex), nor necessarily a homosexual (though that may be the case).
a transsexual is a person who rejects the sex with which he or she was born and takes up the life of the other sex.
If a baby is born with an arm growing out of his belly button, the child should not pursue surgery to fix the problem but rather, he should change his outlook. He should read his bible more and submit to the force actuating his mind.
Anyone outside of the GB has no business making such personal medical decisions for him/herself.
Sheesh!
...should we celebrate the memorial in our homes?
will you do it?
any ideas.
This thread has been very helpful. Thanks Wolfman, AGuest, others...
ixthis: The emphasis of celebration to true Christianity is not the death of Christ but the fact that He resurrected. This is the central theme of the Gospels and of the Traditional Church that was continued through the ages from the Apostles.
Celebrating the resurrection may be the central thrust of true (most of)Christianity, and the bible does mention the resurrection several times, but the theme of the last supper - the wine representing the blood, bread representing the body - was about the sacrifice. When Christ returned to heaven, He presented the value of His sacrifce before God, not the value of a resurrection .
Just my thoughts.
Didn't really care for the corn chip idea.
