My Issue With the Kingdom Melodies

the organization really has some talented people in it.

seriously talented.

artists, musicians, animators, and any other creative venue you can think of.

When they changed some of the songs a few years back, I couldn't bring myself to sing them any more. I would just stand there holding my song book and be disappointed. When I was a true blue JW, some of the songs were dear to my heart. 'Life without end at last', 'Prayer of god's servant', and a few others made me tear up when we sang them. After they changed the music and lyrics, I felt like they had betrayed all the fond memories I had had of singing them with my family. Of course, I realize now that they just another brain washing tool...

Besides Beards . . .

beards have been talked about a lot, especially with the recent wt article, but what about other types of non-mustache facial hair, like goatees chinbeards and soul patches?.

in my own experience i've seen a white young man with big handlebars and a soul patch run mikes, do literature and give talks not too long ago.

i saw a black older man with a sizeable soul patch as the focus of one shot in a jw.org video about an annual meeting a few years ago.

The 1975 Generation---are they still around?

i was raised as a jw and 1975 expectations were pretty intense.

as i recall, most people did not leave after the failed expectations but many s l o w e d down.

now, i think most of the 1975 witnesses are gone or barely in.. is the older generation still around in the kingdom halls or are they much gone?.

How on earth could such a profoundly failed and disappointing thing have been overcome by most JWs? The WTS led everyone to believe 75' was going to be THE END. Of course, after nothing happened they backpedaled and denied and blamed everything on the rank and file.

People sold their homes, misspent their life savings, did all kinds of misguided things because they were led by the WTS to do so. Can you imagine how devastating it must have felt for those who did so when they realized it was for nothing? And yet most stayed loyal and kept following the piper.

Even if most of the JWs at the time didn't go to extent of selling all their valuables and mis-managing their money, I bet they knew someone who did, or at least heard of it happening.

And they kept following the piper...And KEEP following the piper with each new failed hope. They are still focused on that carrot dangling in front of them. It would be interesting to see the results of IQ tests performed on people who are still chasing the carrot...

by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.

How do you deal with depression?

i'm currently going through a bout of depression and my eating disorder has gotten worse.

ever since my parents actually told me that they are going to kick me out when i turn 18 i've felt kind of hopeless about my life.

my parents won't take me to the doctor because the psychiatrists won't have my "best interests" aka jw crap in mind, because really that's the root of all my problems.. i'm wondering if any of you guys have any advice with dealing with depression?

I don't know how much privacy you have but I was wondering if you would be open to Skyping? I would make myself available to you on Skype If you want. You'd probably have to do it when no one else is home, but it might be good for you to actually be able to see and talk to someone that way.

"Tell your parents you plan on writing a letter to Brooklyn expressing their desire to kick you out and you going through a depression stage. I'm sure that will make them sit up quickly because they know that their masters do not advocate kicking someone out merely because they don't buy the crap their selling.

Moreover, tell them that you are on the border of suicide and if and when you do go, you'll be mailing a letter to the local news spelling out why you did it and what led you to it. But be sure to mention this in your letter to Brooklyn."

I think that's a really bad idea. All that will do is infuriate parents that are already hard to deal with. The thing to do is not to make waves. Yes, stand up for yourself, but don't do anything to cause unnecessary conflict. If you try to stay composed, you'll show them that you are more mature than they gave you credit for...Ride it out and make your plans...

Wolf, I'm sorry you are depressed. Being trapped as an under age exjw in a jw household...Anyone would be, given the circumstances. I deal with depression also.

Reaching out like you just have can help. Are you able to come and go freely? Do you have a car? I highly recommend leaving the toxic household as often as you can. Spend some time out of doors. Go to the park. Start putting together a plan for when they kick you out, and if they don't kick you out, leave anyway. Do you have a job? If not, start thinking about supporting yourself. Focus on a household exit plan.

You have your whole life ahead of you. You're leaving the cult at an early age. I'd give my left nut to be your age again, take advantage of your precious youth!

Just try and divert your mind to getting out and making plans for doing so. It might help you feel better to concentrate on that.

@ Perry: She started her bat shit crazy behavior long before I left the JWs. That might be true on most cases, but borderline personality disorder knows no boundaries. Thanks though.

Here's a view on homosexuality for you...

Live and let live. Homosexuals, from what I have seen are peaceful people who just want to live their lives. How many wars were started by homosexuals? How many were started by straight people in the name of religion? In my mind war and killing is a much bigger issue.
