years ago an evangelical christian couple invited me into their home on a hot summer day.
over glasses of lemonade they shared their amazing theory about the watchtower society, a twisted but insanely plausible one that has mentally percolated over the years.
every now and then their theory surfaces in my thoughts with occasional "what if" scenarios about the true nature of the mysterious "men behind the curtain in oz" (with oz being a metaphor for the vatican city of jehovah's witnesses' world that is headquartered in new york state).
Careful Rick, the zealous bug zapper is actively searching for wandering bugs to bring to her beau -uuuuuu- tiful light....
Careful in your quest and searching you don't get sucked in and burned.
Shelby sometimes you and your fellow religionists remind me so much of the JW's. Any sign of weakness or people sincerely questioning things, and you are all over their ass trying to convert them. Religious buzzards, preying on the sick (spiritually) and weary.
This might explain some of the animosity you and other self righteous superfine Christians face on these boards. Your tactics are so familiar. Overwhelm the 'searching ones" with loving and flowery words (and overabundence of words) sucking them into your belief system. Just like the Watchtower.
Sorry RIck, I don't mean this to hijack your thread, but hope it reminds you of how careful you ned to be in your searchings...there are thousands of little Shelby's and anewpersons out there and each one wants you in their own form of belief. At least these two do not appear to have evil intent..they are simply doing what they believe they should, but that was our excuse as JW's too wasn't it?
Sincerity in one's beliefs is not enough to claim one has "the Truth" to others, IMO.
Just keep your head about you Rick!!

hi folks:.
i know many threads have been started on this issue but i ask your indulgence for one more.
there are a few important tidbits necessary to highlight.. 1. please remember that should you be aware of the family name or name of the father, do not post it online.
Hi folks:
I know many threads have been started on this issue but I ask your indulgence for one more. There are a few important tidbits necessary to highlight.
1. Please remember that should you be aware of the family name or name of the father, DO NOT POST IT online. This is a legal issue that could easily sink the Father's efforts. The Court has ordered that the names be kept private while the child is under protective Services of the Province.
2. Please do not become discouraged or annoyed at the over exuberance of some well intentioned posters regarding this issue. Nobody likes to get hit five times in one day with requests for money especially for the same cause regardless of the merits of the cause. At the same time, please let's not flood the boards with repeated requests. Note this is per the father, not just my opinion. He is embarrassed that he actually has to ask for financial help.
3. He asks that his company name not be published and as a bare minimum only the notary's first name be publicized online. His company does not want their name to become synonomous with the JW's.
4. Please be extremely judicious if and when you call his attorney. The father has to pay for every phone call the lawyer takes, so if we all call and 'talk about the weather in Calgary today' (wild example) it only raises the cost of the legal bill.
5. The father is in the midst of arranging to have someone post regular updates at the various JW boards, so that all are kept up to date. This frees his time to concentrate on his daughter, making a living, and fighting the Society. If you are not that person assigned (probably Randy, Lee Elder, Hawkaw or the like) please do not re-post this information over and over again. It wastes space and again can simply annoy other participants.
6. If someone(s) has some free time and wants to assist in a small research project to help this father, please contact me at [email protected]
The father asked that I pass on his thanks to all for your good wishes and help. He has been overwhelmed at how much coverage and interest this case has received. He has certainly had his eyes opened to the Corporate side of the Tower, and the reality of how 'Christian' non JW's actually are versus that which the Society espouses about 'worldly people'.
It does look like the Society will appeal but the father has some other legal counter-options available. So despite the favourable judgment the other day (33 page written reasons yet to be received) it isn't over yet.

This message has been sponsored by the Legal Defence Society of XJW's. Now back to your regular postings.... :) (just for the record ..this is a joke..there is no such thing as LDS of XJW's...yet)
ok - i'm still fairly new here so don't throw tomatoes......... but what is the "unseen apostate directorate" that i see on some of your signature lines?
i'm curious.
Well I can honestly say I am not nor have I ever been a member of the Unseen Apostate Directorate of North America.
So TR could be correct that I was incorrect about correctly pointing out their non-existence. Or then again maybe not.

It is a long standing joke, parody, whatever.
It was funny for the first 300 hundred views... but not necessarily funny when perpetrated against newbies as if there is some sort of club. April 1st is long over.

the appeal court backed the decision of the lower court judge.. i am not rejoicing that the girl is necessarily getting the blood, tho i certainly like her chances for survival far better this way than with the 'alternative' treatment.
i have long been of the opinion that people have the right to chose medical treatment as long as it is an informed decision .
the court in their ruling support the fact that this girl did not make an inofrmed choice and was under intense pressure from the church, not her own belief.

I believe there is another level of Appeals within the Province that would have to be approached before it could be raised to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Trouble is the Society likes trying to escalate things like this so they can get the top Court to make a ruling that would be binding on all Provinces.
I don't see the SCC hearing it since they have made significant rulings about Best Interests of the Child over the past few years and would not likely want to revisit it agains so soon.
My thoughts anyway.

you are driving along on a wild and stormy night.
you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people huddled on a bench, waiting for the bus: .
1. an old woman who looks as if she is dying.
Give the keys to my friend (after all he saved my life, I think I can trust him)
Get him to drive the old lady to a safe warm dry place, then come back along with a cab for himself.
Meanwhile, me and my soulmate cuddle and keep each other warm until the friendreturns. We then go warm up somewhere after saying farewell to the old friend.

The court in their ruling support the fact that this girl did not make an inofrmed choice and was under intense pressure from the church, not her own belief. The court agreed that this girl had not been given a fair chance to consider the alternatives available nor did she have the life experience to make his kind of decision.
It set in place a phenomenal precedent that can be used in Child Custody as well as future blood cases. It shows that 1) the best interests of the child standard is applicable in medical situations, even involving teens, and 2) the WtchTower is in the view of the Court a high controlling religion that shelters their adherants from positive life experiences.
I am trying to get a full copy of the judge's reason's for judgment. If I can find them, I will post them here.
Although this is a relief I am sure for the father..his daughter is getting the treatment she needs, he still has to deal with the costs involved and more stressing, the emotional trauma of being shunned by his family.
Time for those positive thoughts, vibes, prayers..or even better quick notes of support.
Lets hope this can save some teenagers' lives!!!
Kismet - who enjoys seeing the Society's mature minor argument being set on its ear!!
Here is a link to one article just released:
i was thinking today that many of us ex-dubs are fairly capable of holding our own when conversing with an active witness about anything jw related.
if we dont have an immediate answer, it isnt difficult to find a ex-jw website that has a lot of good information we could use for finding an answer fairly quickly.
having said this though, i think there are some questions that a jw could ask you that might be a lot tougher to answer, websites or not.
If there isn't a Creator, how exactly did all this happen? Our human body, the universe(s), the brain, the eye, our ability to reason?
Toughest question IMO
