by sleepy inif men were created in the image of god , and women created for men , then why do all foetuses start off female?.
according to the bible eve was created out of adam.. well i can't speak for adam but the basic body structure of a human it seams starts off as female , men branching off at a certain point of developement due to man making hormones.it doen't get rid of our nipples though.. if men came first or are in some way superior in gods eyes then why the need to develope as a female first , shouldn't it be the other way round?.
so shouldn't have god made eve first?

Is it ever ok not to expose pedophilia?
by SixofNine insome comments in another thread got me thinking about this.. i can't imagine any scenario wherein it would be best to cover over pedophilia.
the needs/feelings of the victim was brought up as a possible reason.
i think the needs of society outweigh the needs of the victim six billion to one, but i also think that this means what is good for society is also exactly what is best for the victim.

People who are in positions of trust, Doctors, Nurses, therapists, school teachers, paramedics etc are required by law to report all possible cases of child abuse whether it be sexual or physical.
It is not a discretionary call. It must be reported. I would not hold elders to a higher standard but since they and other secular clergy are in positions of trust, they should re under the same requirement.
Yes victims have rights but often while being abused they are not concerned so much with protecting themselves as they are often about protecting the abuser, whether this is by fear or intimidation tactics.
And since we are speaking of children in most of these examples, and we are talking about children here right?.. Can an 8 year old really decide what is best for herself? A 2 year old? a 14 year old? Most of these vulnerable ones (especially when it is a relative that is abusing them) would rather suffer than hurt 'Daddy' or 'Mommy'. This is why responsible people in the community have to report these instances to the Police or other authorities.
Reporting has a two-fold benefit, It gets the alleged abuser away from other kids thus protecting the community. Reporting also forces acknowledgement of the abuse and opens up possible treatment for the victim of abuse rather than sweeping it under the emotional rug to be dealt with later if at all.

Classless American Behavior
by Pathofthorns ini was watching the hockey game yesterday and i thought i heard 'booing' during canada's national anthem.
earlier in the week the same thing occurred during the raptor's playoff game.. as some are aware canada has been mourning and burying their 4 dead soldiers due to the incompetence of an american fighter pilot who dropped a bomb on them while they were carrying out training exercises.
flags are flying at half-mast as canadians try to make sense of such a careless mistake.. i find it hard to believe any civilized person would show such disrespect to another country to 'boo' them during their national anthem at any time, and more so during a time of mourning because of death caused directly by american hands.. i sincerely hope american media chastised their countrymen who showed such insensitive, classless, ignorant and disrespectful behavior to their neighbours.

While at the Olympics, I was very impressed at how restrained the American supporters were. There was little in-yer-face type patriotic displays. Fans at the events applauded atheletic performance regardless of country.
While walking around in Canadian attire daily, it was typical that every 5 minutes, an American would yell support to Canada or make a pro-Canadian comment. Many Americans cheered the winners of the hockey games. Some even asked if they could have a couple of the mini CDN flags and pins I had brought with me.
So I beg to differ on your opinion on 'most Americans'

I was angered too when I heard that at both events, but making wipe sweeping generalizations don't help either.
Perhaps a better title might have been "Classless Behaviour by some Americans." Many Americans I know and that I have spoken to today all commented about the ignorance of such conduct.

I just got ripped off for two grand :-(
by Mindchild insometime yesterday or this morning, i was ripped off for $2,000 in cash.
the money was in an unlocked attache case inside my private room of a shared home.. i kept about $5,000 in cash in my attache case inside my bedroom.
yesterday, i spent about $2,000 of that money buying textbooks (this is my occupation), leaving $3,000 in two envelopes, one having $1,000 and the other $2,000.

I am sorry that this happened to you. I am also sorry that you as a victim got attacked the way you did as outlined in TeeJay's post. Simply put that sucks.
Anyone who has really spent time around any campus of higher learning knows well the sight of the book resellers, both prior to and towards the end of the semester. The business model for such resellers is just shy of genius. It is also very understandable the need for that amount of cash, especially this time of the campus year.
When you are buying books back at $50-100+ a piece and at any kind of volume, $2,000 doesn't last long and students just won't take cheques from a reseller..they deal in cash.
It is a shame that some short sighted, suspicious busybodies can't see past their own nose sometimes and just worsened your situation with their allegations.
I wondered how long it would take for fresh meat to be found to gnaw on, I am sorry it was you. Don't get me wrong I am still apprehensive of the whole island concept but to each their own. If it makes you happy and doesn't hurt anyone else..go for it! Just my opinion of course.

Reasons why we hate JW's (as an org)
by ashitaka inmy first reason is the fact that i was being controlled through the jw social structure, and having to fight to do anything....even whether to wear a tie or not.
the preoccupation with appearance was so debilitating; that was all i was ever concerned with.
and, as i'm not attractive, good in sports, or a conformist, i had very few friends.

The elements most disturbing to me have been the shunning issue and the FACT that the JW's are a high control religious sect.
Shunning: I do understand and fully support kicking out child abusers and the like. Sure they can attend the meetings but they will never be allowed out in service or on the platform. This does serve as a protection to the Congregation and to the community. But, and this is a big butt!! most people are not shunned for such major crimes. They lose their families over stupid little things like being disrespectful to elders, for smoking, for lack of self control over NATURAL desires.
Rather than being a loving act it is a harsh abuse heaped on many honest hearted people. This people are not wicked but they are 'beat about the head' by star chamber tactics and methods. Can you feel the love? What was that identifying feature again?
Anyone with half a brain and a modicum of honesty can see that the JW's are a high control sect. When buying clothing, they have to think is this acceptable to the congregation (and every cong has it's own rules), can I go to a funeral service of my Uncle who isn't a JW? What do the publications have to say about that? They are taught not how to research scripture but how to use the Society's index properly. Then we have Christmas, Valentine's Day etc nope can't do that. How about who you can date? well it has to be in the BOrg, and even then the person has to have the approval oof the elders or else will feel the pressure to break it off.
As far as Xenu goes, don't let him hijack this thread away from the topic. Don't feed the trolls. He is simply a reincarnate of Fred Hall, just done as a religious zealot and a preoccupation with Jewish g-d's instead of Jessica Alba :) ..IMO of course.
