...putting the "cult" in Pop Culture.
interesting little video from a youtuber called david stewart.. he puts forward an interesting idea that fan following around films and music is comparable to people being in a cult.. stewart is a film reviewer among other things, putting out several videos critiquing the force awakens (2015) and receiving lots of abuse and even death threats.. enjoy ….

...putting the "cult" in Pop Culture.
whether they go back to door-to-door or not, what will be different?
do you think there will be a noticeable drop-off in attendance as we have read on here that many have left or faded?
will there be a mass selling of halls?
I can't help but wonder just how conflicted the WT leadership feels about all this.
So much in recent years has suggested that they wanted to move the ministry away from door-to-door work, transition to an "e-church", and prune out all the "lukewarm" to bring the membership down to a more manageable size...
...but...
...the Org's long-standing - nay, defining - characteristics of door-knocking, disdain towards anything resembling the methods of "worldy" religions, and practically baked-in rhetoric of "growth=God's blessing" practically fly in the face of all that.
Gotta be tough for the poor bastards.
so sam rolex had this months talk on jw cult broadcasting.
my question to sam rolex is why not sell your rolex and give it to the cult?
how about muppet lett, why not sell your rental property in ga and give it to the cult?
What, Top-Shelf Tony can't pitch in his whiskey money?

GrreatTeacher - “... This could be successful as long as they don't give in to the temptation to denigrate those that only watch at home as 'less spiritual.'...”
I absolutely guarantee you they would not be able to resist.

I've actually given this some thought as to just why it happens, and I've come to suspect that...
a) ...because the church leadership becomes convinced that every little imaginative flash of "insight" that pops into their collective heads is divinely-ordained (and no one tells them otherwise, 'cause they've surrounded themselves solely with people who are never allowed to disagree with them), they simply assume that any evidence that become apparent will naturally vindicate them, and...
b) ...back when the theology was originally crafted, the world was so much bigger and science was so much less advanced that disproving a belief with actual hard evidence (as opposed to verbal testimony) was way more difficult... and therefore - for all intents and purposes - not worth worrying about.
I could be wrong.

dropoffyourknee - "...it is astounding the lengths they go to to find 'evidence' to support their previously-arrived-at conclusions."
The Org actually tried to do that back in the day.
Unlike the LDS (apparently), when it started to became painfully apparent that no such evidence was forthcoming, they just stopped looking, and simply demonized any outside sources that had refuting information.
Much easier.

re. the OP...
The WT isn't so much "downsizing" as it's (apparently) refocusing its attention on a TV/movie studio.
If I had to guess, I'd say they'd been advised that the Branch, Kingdom Hall, and Assembly Hall sales weren't gonna keep the Org afloat much longer (not to mention that their tax-exemption might be at risk before too long)...
...so they had to come up with something bigger to put on the market.
so the cult is building movie studios and making films or propaganda d movies of jesus.
my question is how do they plan to make their investment back?
my guess is that they are hoping that this somehow brings in converts.
The JesusVision limited series...
..."Brother Lett's Neighborhood" (filmed in front of a captive live studio audience)...
...a "science" special debunking evolution...
...and an epic adaptation of Revelation: Its Grand Climax at Hand! (viewer discretion advised).
And when it becomes clear that operating the facility will cost more than they can afford, the Org can sell it to Marvel Studios.
so rolex sam said this.
is this something the whole cult buys into?
any links to rolex sam saying this?
Sometimes, I can't help but suspect that men's historical subjugation of women was, at it's core, to enable assholes to get laid...
...'cause I guarantee you that in a matriarchal society, that wasn't happening.
i have a family member who is a remote bethelite and they are working on creating content for online "university" for bethelites to teach them skills that are needed at bethel.
from what i've seen it is a lot of recorded content saved on their sharepoint sites.
i haven't seen any information on this from this site or reddit which i'm more active on.
Weird.
