  I’ve given this subject some thought, lately, and I’ve come to suspect that the victim-to-perp phenomena is a direct result of the older - and entirely inadequate - mentality and methodology of keeping shit like that quiet.

  Civilized society doesn’t really do that anymore… awareness of the problem is now par for the course, we’re figuring out ways to actually deal with the problem, and most importantly, we actually make an effort to help the victims recover from the trauma, rather than pretend it doesn’t even happen.

  And the ones that recover from that trauma seem far less likely to perpetuate the cycle.

  As far as I’m concerned in regards to shunning, attempts at lawsuits or criminalization, et al are all a waste of time and resources.

  The simplest (and, IMO, most elegant) solution is initiate legislation that any organization who shuns - religious or secular - becomes ineligible for charity status / tax exemption.

  Federal governments and their revenue agencies have every right and responsibility to set (or revise) bare-minimum requirements for qualification… especially ones that that minimize discrimination in any form… but more importantly…

  a) …nobody’s being “forced” to do anything, ‘cause applying for and acquiring charity status / tax-exemption is entirely voluntary…

  b) …the only real opponents would be groups and their lobbyists who actively - and obviously - want to shun / discriminate, and those assholes are rarely on the winning side of history, and…

  c) …anyone stoopid enough to holler “persecution” just because they have to either follow the rules they already agreed to OR “pay back Caesar’ things to Caesar”, doesn’t look like a champion of religious freedom, a victim of tyranny, or a righteous martyr.

  To anyone with half a brain, they just look like a whiny little bitch.

  …stuff that’s a matter of Public Record is a lot harder to refute than popular media… God help any loyalist who insists that it’s all lies, only to be proven wrong.

  They don’t usually say outright that any specific incident is false, anyway…

  …they just remind any questioning ones that Satan’s World is out to get God’s Earthly Organization and therefore can’t be trusted, and leave ‘em to be too scared to believe it all on their own.

  I think that’s gettin’ a bit more difficult, these days, though. 😏

  the dead man's brother is designated "the avenger" and pursues the original guy in order to kill him for being responsible for the death.
