I can’t shake the feeling that it was originally suggested as a joke, one of the stupider higher-ups thought it was serious, and thought it as a good enough idea to give it a green light.

a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.
in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.

Reminds me, I had an aunt who thought Def Leppard was demonic…
…simply because the band was popular.
Seriously.
She was so out-of-touch (and her personal preferences were so entrenched) that she couldn’t even consider that maybe they were actually skilled musicians and that people enjoyed their stuff.
I played the piano back then, and told her point-blank that I knew for a fact they were talented, simply because their music was really hard to learn. The look on her face was fucking priceless, but she couldn’t say anything, because…
a) …she’d always respected my musical ability, and…
b) …I was one of her kids’ only cousins who’d hang out with them. 😏
Looking back, she probably would have had a meltdown if she’d ever found out just how “Pour Some Sugar On Me” originally became popular. 🤣
