ziddina - "...the bible writers - and "Jesus" - STILL BELIEVED THAT THE EARTH WAS FLAT..."
No "Bible-believing" Christian will ever acknowledge that.
i've heard the statement from bible apologists so many times that the global flood story of genesis was not a global flood but was probably a local flood.
this seems problematic.. this directly disagrees with the bible.
everywhere the bible internally references a global flood of worldwide scale (i'll throw in matthew 24:39 as a nt example and genesis 6:17 as a ot example.

i can't believe it.
probably haven't been out long enough to know they lie like this.
now i just heard it with my own ears.
Black Sheep - "Did they really answer my question, or did they subtly change the subject just enough that I didn't notice?"
Damn sneaky. Gotta hand it to 'em.
while i didn't listen to the recent audio interview (see this thread), a certain watchtower official denied that disfellowshipped people are shunned by their relatives.
i was understandably irked at that bald-faced lie since for the last 33 years i've been shunned by two of my children.
then i thought -- hey, that official simply reverted to his watchtower teaching.. that jwn thread may not show up.
Black Sheep - "No lie was told. They made a statement on an unrelated subject that had nothing at all to do with Nathan's situation..."
Bait 'n' switch, huh? Clever; they can disavow anything that the reader infers from that.
ok so my husband and i were watching tv the other night and some college kids for the local area come on asking for blood for the local blood drive.
they were saying help save lives by giving you blood.. my husband speaks up and says what a lie they are telling to people.
i just wanted to scream but instead, i asked my husband where the blood fractions he has ok'ed on his durable power of attorney comes from.
flipper - "I'm sorry you have to deal with a cult mind controlled husband who would probably throw you under the bus if YOU needed a blood transfusion."
Authoritarian/heirarchal groups, as have been said before, shoot their wounded. I would also like to add that they, when threatened, eat their young.
i was reading a article about a national acclaim charles lummis for.
his poetry.
in 1884, while working at a newspaper in ohio, he was offered.
Leolaia, you are an historical badass.
very few people actually know this but the watchtower dvd faith in action is actually a tribute to freemasonry.
this dvd presents illustrations of several famous freemasons such as john coustos (a portuguese grand master from lisbon circa 1740).
the dvd actually presents two illustrations of coustos being tortured by the clergy while the anonymous narrator denounces historic abuse from the clergy.
Palimpsest - "Freemason conspiracy theories are getting really, really old for me."
Yeah, no kidding. For chrissakes, people, the Masons and the Illuminati (assuming they even still exist) are not planning to take over the world!
Jeezus.
designs - "I liked all of the Mason references in the movies From Hell and Sherlock Holmes, made for good plot advancement."
Ditto.
I also like the Freemason philosophy/worldview...at least, the way it was portrayed in Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, anyway.
The alleged ritualish-ness and secrecy doesn't do anything for me, though.

Amelia Ashton - "It is a bare faced lie they have tried to conceal with clever words."
I gotta say, it was prettty egregious.
Was a time when they would have proudly and publicly stated that DFed and DAed XJWs deserved whatever the hell they got; a lot of hard-core (non-JW) Bible-Belters would've applauded the statement, too.
Not so much now, though, huh?
Way I see it, the full-transparency-and-damn-the-consequences approach is the only really honest way of going about it in the WikiLeaks era; the acid test or nothin', man.
Just my opinion.
i was reading this debate this morning (decent arguments on both sides and an overall respectful demeanor):.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/205158/1/look-it-wasnt-a-global-flood.
much of the discussion revolved around other mentions of the flood in the bible.
snowbird - "I tried, albeit feebly, to state my belief that a Supercontinent prevailed before the Flood."
Well, a supercontinent DID exist prior to the era of the Noachian Deluge - whether the Deluge was history OR parable. The geological evidence for THAT is pretty compelling.
So, you might have been preaching to the choir.
Just sayin'.
i love chris isaak's wicked game.
it's haunting.. traffic's low spark of high heeled boys was/is a song that i'd listen to over and over again.
(if i were to ever taked lsd, that would be the song i'd listen to).. i love michael jackson's version of smile.
Iron Head - Watched/listened.
All I can say is: wow.
Just...wow.
i've been doing research for about a year, (omg all the things that i'm finding out.
its right around the corner!
i know that life can get bad, but how is the big a gonna make things better?
LongHairGal - "These are all very un-spiritual, un-charitable and ignoble reasons for wanting Armageddon to come, in my opinion."
Persecution complexes are like cigarettes; bad for you.
