There was a Simpsons episode where a pair of JWs knocked, Marge didn't get to the door in time, they left and had a conversation with each other to the effect of "why are we wasting our lives? we don't have all the answers", after which they tossed the WT mags in the trash at the end of the driveway. Marge was lonely, and so disappointed that they left she said "I would have feigned interest"...
Then there was a really funny scene in the Coneheads movie, wherein the Immigration agents trying to track them down knocked on the Coneheads' door posing as JWs; they were very convincing (even though they got a couple details of JW eschatology a bit "wrong").

The way I understood it at the time, there were more steps to go; the World would turn against Babylon the Great, it would be eliminated through an empowered UN, then the cry of "Peace and Security", then the King of the North would instigate the final attack on JWs, then the Big A...

It's a variation on what I did, although, oddly enough, my "priveleges" had already been slowly and steadily eroded. Not that I minded; life without congo "priveleges" was way easier that life with 'em.
Surprisingly, I got little criticism for growing my Chad Kroeger; mostly complements, as a matter of fact. Only one or two people grumbled a little, and then, just once or twice. I suspect that they already knew that any objections they made could be easliy refuted with logic and common sense. People in my orbit learned early not to say things that made them look stoopid.
