I've actually given this some thought as to just why it happens, and I've come to suspect that...
a) ...because the church leadership becomes convinced that every little imaginative flash of "insight" that pops into their collective heads is divinely-ordained (and no one tells them otherwise, 'cause they've surrounded themselves solely with people who are never allowed to disagree with them), they simply assume that any evidence that become apparent will naturally vindicate them, and...
b) ...back when the theology was originally crafted, the world was so much bigger and science was so much less advanced that disproving a belief with actual hard evidence (as opposed to verbal testimony) was way more difficult... and therefore - for all intents and purposes - not worth worrying about.
I could be wrong.

dropoffyourknee - "...it is astounding the lengths they go to to find 'evidence' to support their previously-arrived-at conclusions."
The Org actually tried to do that back in the day.
Unlike the LDS (apparently), when it started to became painfully apparent that no such evidence was forthcoming, they just stopped looking, and simply demonized any outside sources that had refuting information.
Much easier.

re. the OP...
The WT isn't so much "downsizing" as it's (apparently) refocusing its attention on a TV/movie studio.
If I had to guess, I'd say they'd been advised that the Branch, Kingdom Hall, and Assembly Hall sales weren't gonna keep the Org afloat much longer (not to mention that their tax-exemption might be at risk before too long)...
...so they had to come up with something bigger to put on the market.
so the cult is building movie studios and making films or propaganda d movies of jesus.
my question is how do they plan to make their investment back?
my guess is that they are hoping that this somehow brings in converts.
The JesusVision limited series...
..."Brother Lett's Neighborhood" (filmed in front of a captive live studio audience)...
...a "science" special debunking evolution...
...and an epic adaptation of Revelation: Its Grand Climax at Hand! (viewer discretion advised).
And when it becomes clear that operating the facility will cost more than they can afford, the Org can sell it to Marvel Studios.
so rolex sam said this.
is this something the whole cult buys into?
any links to rolex sam saying this?
Sometimes, I can't help but suspect that men's historical subjugation of women was, at it's core, to enable assholes to get laid...
...'cause I guarantee you that in a matriarchal society, that wasn't happening.
i have a family member who is a remote bethelite and they are working on creating content for online "university" for bethelites to teach them skills that are needed at bethel.
from what i've seen it is a lot of recorded content saved on their sharepoint sites.
i haven't seen any information on this from this site or reddit which i'm more active on.
Weird.
i love r&b music, funk and soul, even some disco.
i’ve been listening to retro soul radio out of london lately and the music is without commercial interruptions 24 hours a day.
mostly 70s and 80s music.. i love everything from elvis presley to tom jones too.
Technically, Jackson disassociated himself.
i know there were prior kicking out of watchtower's bethelites by the higher ups under the guise of down sizing.
now with the covid-19 thing, are these guys going to be kicked to the curb again?.
for everyone who will fill me in, thank you in advance..
Jeezus, being in Bethel during Covid lockdown sounds like hell on earth.

hybridous - "...I think leadership would be wary of trying to rally troops that it doesn't have a lot of confidence in."
That's based on the assumption that the leadership actually makes reasoned, well-thought-out decisions.
