Mikejw - “…I think they may be wrong about 1914 and other things…”
According to the confidential elders’ manual “Shepherding the Flock of God”, that sentiment would technically constitute “apostasy”.
i know of a lovely old sister who has been a jw for several decades now who openly expresses doubts about jw interpretations.. she does it in such a lovely way and everyone loves her.
she is such a sweet old soul, makes everyone happy around her.. she has said things like- even if we have got it wrong about this and that i still believe the bible is gods word”.
she answers up regularly and she goes on ministry groups but like most of us she is definitely jwlite, we don’t really do door to door work anymore.

“You’re gonna need a bigger back room…”

on february 22, 2023, anthony morris iii was officially removed from the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.
a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.
in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.
From what I’ve heard, the two houses are not swanky, nor in a luxury environment, and the Org takes ‘em back once the Morrises are gone.
This isn’t a retirement package.
It’s an exile.
i joined about 5 days ago and have some observations/questions.. does anyone notice the profile update doesn't seem to work?
i like reading some of the profiles, most accounts don't have them and maybe that's because the tool doesn't function anymore?.
also i've been noticing a diverse number of subjects which made me think of the categories of people on here.
We kind of already have categories…
… PIMI, PIMQ, PIMO, POMI, etc…
(revelation 17:5) “babylon the great, the mother of the prostitutes (plural!
) and of the disgusting things of the earth.”.
btg is spotlighted as being the principal "disgusting thing" which affects christians & christianity, with other lesser "prostitutes" in the background... (revelation 18:4) “get out of her, my people, (christians) if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues.".
BoogerMan - “How can Babylon the Great be the WORLD of false religion?”
’Cause Freddy Franz said so.
just wondering if the rich celebrities that occasionally were aligned with the wt gave enough to the 'tower to be a worthwhile presence within the organisation?.
my gut instinct is: "no".
i imagine that the jackson family gave a fair bit, but it was obviously never enough to buy michael the right to be held as being in good standing.
enoughisenough - “I never understood how celebs could be ‘witnesses’ because witnesses were to be no part of the world, and being a celebrity seemed to me to be as worldly as it got.”
Very well put.
The notion always seemed problematic to me for a number of reasons, the least of which being that even the most low-key celebrities seemed to have lives that would get any ordinary rank-and-filer a good dressing-down in the back room for “brazen conduct” or somesuch.
But what kind of celebrity would even bother to listen to “counsel” from someone who - from their perspective - is a nobody?
Not to mention that DFing a prominent public figure is not a good look.
From what we’ve seen, they obviously live more or less as they please, and the Org (uncomfortably, I’m sure) looks the other way, and hopes the membership doesn’t notice too much.
Which is telling, in and of itself.

He was always an old-school hardliner. I seem to recall him saying “the Governing Body is under attack” not long before he was shown the door.
It’s pretty clear by now that ousting him removed an obstacle to reform (or, at least, the appearance of it).
What are the odds that event convinced Two-House he’d been right, that the GB gave in to fear instead of having faith and has now become irrevocably seduced by the Dark Side of the Force “Satan’s World”…
…and now, in his own mind, he’s “disfellowshipped” them?
😏

Bumped with this:

Yet another GB celebritard going off-script and saying cringey shit.
I’m tellin’ you guys, Letto the Clown’s next.
😄
i now view jwlite like the trekkie conventions.
star trek is fiction and all the fans know this full well.
but they find it beneficial.
Well…
….I’d’ve had a hard time turning down a lapdance from a green-skinned Orion hottie.
And I can absolutely imagine Top-Shelf Tony imagining himself as Captain Kirk. 😄

At the time, there were a lot more JW lifers still alive, who’d cut their teeth on WT oracle Fred Franz’ Cold-War-centric End Times script … my Dad knew it backwards and forwards (and by extension, so did I). A change-up that radical would have alienated too many of ‘em at once, and the Org was way slower to risk that kind of thing back then.
Not to mention that Franz left no protege after he kicked the bucket, and most of the really creative thinkers had been purged out of Bethel during the apostate witch-hunts of the late 70s and early 80s… IMO, it’s doubtful they could’ve come up with a plausible alternative “understanding” even if they’d wanted to.
And, also, I think some of ‘em just liked it… viewing the United Nations as the Wild Beast was something unique to JWs, not to mention useful… since their eschatology didn’t have an actual “Antichrist”-type individual*, the UN could stand in as an actual, tangible villain in their narrative.
*that the rank-and-file might be tempted to spend endless hours trying to identify, the same way thousands of other American fundagelicals have been doing for the past fucking century. 🙄
