Seems strange to me how self-righteous people can go to such extremes like not believing their own daughters in their time of need, but then turn right around and attack them for the slightest remark made in jest. JWs whole thinkiing process is a paradox.

JC said it best: "It is in vain that they keep worshipping me" and "they strain out the gnat then gulp the camel right on down". yep, JWs are truly an aberration of the human race.

How Far Apart Were Your Legs?

several threads on here about the excellent bbc r4 programme this week ('the report') focussing on rape and abuse in barry, south wales, jws.

fat pervert mark sewell later got 14 years and i hope he is enjoying every minute of it.. the courageous ladies who spoke on the programme were articulate, reasonable and made a tremendous impression.. the quote in the thread title made an impression on me, and i hope, on all listeners.. forget religious, theological, 'biblical' issues and cut to the basics.

a rape victim was asked to demonstrate - to demonstrate, ffs - to three unqualified (middle-aged at least, presumably) men just how far her legs were apart when she was raped.. i have rarely heard anything so outrageous, and i used to investigate rape and abuse in my profession.

It's difficult not to suspect the men were seeking prurient pleasure by their actions.

Parents of teenage daughters know that when there's a falling out between teenage friends, some girls seek revenge by gossiping and betraying. It was during one of these episodes that my wife and I found ourselves in a cold dark back room of the KH with our daughter and 2 elders. She was being accused of an undisclosed indiscretion. I confronted the elders about producing 2 witnesses and the PO proceeded to tell me they decided to pursue it anyway because of the "seriousness of the accusation" against my daughter. (they really do get away with whatever they want) Then, they ask my wife and I to leave the back room and let them question our 15 yo daughter alone. We complied relunctantly because we were always taught to trust these men. Afterwards, my wife told me she would NEVER do that again - leave her daughter alone with strange men. We shivered for about half an hour in the cold, dark KH while the interrogation took place.

Later that week, one of those 2 elders ended the ministry school meeting by asking the audience to "please stand and spread your legs" for the song (instead of "stretch your legs"). Of course all the drones chuckled - but when I heard his faux pas, my stomach hit the floor and bounced back up to my throat! Seriously? What have you been thinking about, brother? looking back now, I know (in my heart of hearts) that these elders had pruient interests when questioning my young, attractive daughter. Sickening, but true without a doubt in my mind. On a side note - not long after that, one of them was run over by a drunk driver and killed. (at the time, I didn't know what to think of it)

a poster on another thread reminded me of when there was a 15 min.

break between the talk and the wt study on sundays.

the break was supposed to be to allow jw's time to drive their bible studys home from the talk.

this thread dusted off quite a few cobwebs...the mid 60s, teen years, wow! recall 5 or so of us 15-16 yo boys back in the day creating our own little 15 minute breaks. we had a very small, overpacked KH, so we generously "volunteered" to sit in the tiny back room where they kept the literature (no windows, heh). Adjoining this room was the furnace room where we'd hide out and play penny ante poker. We'd take turns at being the "lookout" guy. Finally got busted & shut down by some pesky nose-pokin', uber-suspicious, do-gooder brother. but man, it was worth it gettin' away w/ something forbidden for a while. HA! hadn't thought of those guys for decades! thx for the memory!

earlier this week i bumped into a couple of jws who i recognised from the cult cart.

a few months ago i had a long conversation with him one of them and found him to be quite friendly.

he is new to the area in the years since i left.. this time he was very defensive and said he wasn't allowed to talk to me.
