  Higher Education

  just spent 8 hours in a 1 day elders school last weekend.

  clarification given: "moving forward any elder, ms, or pioneer who themselves or someone under their roof enrolls in higher education, may no longer qualify for privileges in the congregation.

  their qualifications will have to be reviewed by their boe.".

  I attended the Elders School last weekend (UK), and there wasn't a single reference to higher education, not even in the sections on making recommendations. Sounds like your instructor went rogue :)

  well it's been awhile since i got angry and wanted to post on here again.

  last week's watchtower about the subject of love had something to say about the hard working attendants.

  it seems that they are choosing to sit in the best seats at the convention.

  @konceptual99 - that was a pretty rounded condemnation of all JWs - I wonder, does that include your still-in family and the friends you still socialise with and from whom you conceal who you really are, or are the “hypocrites” just all the others?

  For fear of being called an apologist, having been an attendant myself for many years, the behaviour described here is very much from a minority. My experience is working with many genuine caring men, and women, that only wanted to help and improve the experience for others. I accept that there are exceptions - and once you’ve left the org, you probably remember the negative, but I don’t accept the blanket characterisation portrayed here...

  Do you (or did you) have much of a social life as a Jehovahs Witness.

  i ask this question out of interest, because as a jehovahs witness for some 26 years, i have always felt that there is an 'all work, no play' culture within the organisation.

  the organisation doesn't promote social gatherings.

  i could count on one hand each year how many get togethers we have had.

  Maybe I am unusual, but for me the social life is one of upsides! Ive made and continue have some great friends inside, and as a born in, had a great social life in my teens - we had friends all over the place - parties every weekend... Im not kidding.. much better than what most of my friends at school were up to..

  we all know the gb like to impose rules upon the rules... but did anyone else out there have parents that implemented rules upon those rules?

  mine did.

  my mum tended to copy whatever the elders wives were doing and took it to the extreme.

  spoonfed nomore, has uploaded a video on his youtube site, of exjw activists protesting inside a kingdom hall during this sunday meeting.

  several people speak out.

  if some one can put a link on here that would be awesome, i can’t figure out how to do it with an i phone.

  I do understand that when you become an "ex-anything", whether you've been fired from your job, barred from you local pub, or been disfellowshiped or left the Org, you might need to have a bitch about it from time to time - and that's largely what happens here 24/7 - but entering a Kingdom Hall full of the young, the old, families and just normal people, exercising their right to free assembly and worship, to disrupt and protest is just plain wrong. What on earth gives these people the right to think this is in any shape or form appropriate behavior? For crying out loud - move on and get a new hobby....

  i've recently been at an assembly here in romania and there was an announced they were running a 10,000 euro deficit and urging all attendees to donate more money besides the already 5k has was donated during that day.

  i really don't understand these things.

  it's their own assembly hall.

  I thought this thread was about the WTS/Org's lack of transparency in financial dealings that often leaves those who donate to it in the dark about what is going on.

  Respectfully, my experience is that the general R&F are just fine with things as they are.. and returning to my earlier analogy, most of us dont try and fully research the financial structures of whatever charities we might support.. we just support them - if we want to. Just offering a counterpoint...

  K99 - The reality is of course that individuals don't care even when it's pointed out. They are just happy the money can go to the branch.

  I think this comment hits the nail on the head. This thread wants to believe that the "deficit" issue is some sort of scandal, because you've all either left the organization or want to. The community of active JW's that continue putting hard earned cash in the box is by and large perfectly happy with that arrangement. No ones knows what you give, so there is no outside coercion. Yes the GB strongly encourage it, but you can just not! Most know that the assembly halls are bought and paid for, and that the per-capita charge largely goes to support the www. Which again most people are also happy with. In the world outside the org plenty of people support any number of charities and causes that may or may not pay huge executive salaries or have poor governance, but we do because we want to. There is no scandal here - just a bunch of people making choices - just different ones to the folks that come here...
