when i was still serving as an elder in the late summer of 2006 in a congregation of jws in socal we received a letter from the "christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses" (read: the governing body) directing that anyone pursuing a higher education would be disqualified from privileges of service: elder, servant, pioneer, etc.
i remember this quite distinctly because i had just received by ba in education in june a few months before this.
in 2002, i had decided to pursue a degree under the society's then current "it's a personal decision" policy and was quite shocked at their drastic policy change.
This issue is one of the biggest reasons I started having a mistrust of The Governing Body. I heard about this for the first time at the Minsterial School for Elders and Servants back in November of 2010. I joined this forum the following month.
Now, I'm not sure that I could ever be convinced to remain a Jehovah's Witness for the rest of my life.

Interestingly enough, this work-friend of hers mentioned in the past that she thought it was very "cultish" that Jehovah's Witnesses only hung out with each other exclusively. My wife seemed bothered by that statement and told her she thought we could hang out with whoever we wanted to and that it was nobody's business but ours.

Someone mentioned in SIAM's thread a month or so ago about intentionally missing a meeting on a regular basis to do something fun together as a way to help your spouse out of the organization. I thought it was a smart idea, so I'm working at it. Just so happens, this was her idea today! So far, we are having a great day! Slept in, enjoyed breakfast, played with the baby, now we are off to meet her friends for lunch!

@ Franklin Massey, I agree somewhat. However, I think there is a fine balance that this guy needs to strike in order to even get the the movie to appeal to active Jehovah's Witnesses. If he picks a bunch of sensational and rare stories to tell, most Jehovah's Witnesses will find the documentary to be completely dishonest and it won't affect them one iota.
