  2011 DC Invitation

  couple of things i found kind of interesting.

  on the front it has the wording "qualify to live in the paradise" or something to that effect.

  just another weird thing that jws teach, having to "qualify" for the paradise, based on your works of course.. the back has the image of daniel with the world powers on it, the bottom has a circle with a "?

  There have been "Dramatic Bible Readings" at the last two or three conventions. So, that is nothing new.

  There have also been "Modern Dramas" on Saturday at the last two conventions. I was asked to do one of them. They are only 5 minutes long or so. Last years involved a younger couple, and the husband and wife were upset because he was not appointed as an Elder after the most recent Circuit Overseer's visit.

  I would assume that this convention is "business-as-usual" comapared to the last two years. They are just trying to do a better job of selling it to the public this time around.

  I'm sure this is bound to be a nutty convention, if this invite is any indication. I will be recording the whole program and posting a full report this Summer.

  Was Judas Present During "The Lord's Evening Meal"?

  so...i heard the speaker during the memorial mention this.

  he said for a fact, that judas would not have been present.

  however, upon reading luke 22, you see clearly that the argument about judas started after jesus instituted the new covenant.

  So...I heard the speaker during the Memorial mention this. He said for a fact, that Judas would not have been present. However, upon reading Luke 22, you see clearly that the argument about Judas started AFTER Jesus instituted The New Covenant.

  I thought...HOLD ON A SECOND...and decided to research it.

  Matthew doesn't say anything about Judas leaving, ever. Mark doesn't say anything about Judas leaving, ever. Luke says he was there. John doesn't mention The New Covenant at all, but says that he left, but there is no context with which to place the timing of his leaving against the issuance of The New Covenant.

  The Insight Book under 'Judas' mentions the same lines of reasoning that are presented in the '57 Questions From Readers article about my same question. The articles both say that Luke was likely written out of chronological order (because everyone knows that doctors are horrible with records). This is a HUGE assumption, with no verifiable evidence to prove its truth.

  The articles also try to harmonize Matthew's account with John's, since in Matthew, Jesus mentions he has a betrayer before he institutes The Covenant (but Judas is not recorded as leaving), and in John, Judas is show as leaving "immediately" after Jesus mentions he has a betrayer, althought The Covenant is not mentioned in John's account.

  Lastly, the articles point out that Judas would not have been someone who stuck with Jesus through his trials (Luke 22:28), and so by inferrence, he would have been gone from the table when Jesus said this. This also is a pretty big assumption, IMHO.

  Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I see the likely-hood that Judas would have been dismissed before "The Covenant" but Matthew, Mark, and John are all too ambiguous to know for sure. Luke makes it pretty plain that Judas was present at least until after "The Covenant" was set up.

  It seems to me, that the much more humble approach would simply have been to say: "There is no way to know for sure."

  Rather, it seems that The Scriptures are being manipulated to say more than they actually say, just to fit The Watchtower's vision of how EXCLUSIVE The New Covenant Arrangement is.

  Walkill Bethel Recreational Facility

  my wife and i just visited some friends over the weekend from another congregation.

  these two are both full time pioneers, and also participate in various construction projects around the country.

  the husband just got back from a 3 week trip to walkill, new york to help with construction on a new residence building at 'the farm' (does anyone call it that anymore?)..

  My wife and I just visited some friends over the weekend from another congregation. These two are both full time pioneers, and also participate in various construction projects around the country.

  The husband just got back from a 3 week trip to Walkill, New York to help with construction on a new residence building at 'The Farm' (Does anyone call it that anymore?).

  He showed us a map of the 'campus' which he had sketched in the locations of the new construction projects with a Sharpie Pen. As it turns out (and I think I had already read this on here somewhere), The Watchtower Bible & Tract Society is building an extremely large Recreational Center for the benefit of the Bethel Family. With a creepy gleam in his eye, this brother spoke about how the Rec-Center would have "ever ball-court imaginable" and "an olympic size swimming pool", etc.

  I hadn't really given it much thought until this morning, but....WHAT A BUNCH OF FUCKING HYPOCRITES

  I am fuming. This is the first time I have really been angry during my "awakening".

  After just returning from a Circuit Assembly a couple of weeks ago, where we were admonished to be satisfied with the bare necessities of life, and told to stop trying to maintain our standardof living as the cost of goods increases, The Watchtower Society is taking our money and spending it on a Rec Center???!!!

  Just after being told for an entire weekend that we need to simplify our life, and resisit the temptation to spend too much time on recreation; Just after being told in last weeks Watchtower (3/27) in paragraph 16 that "we must avoid needless pursuits, needless weights, that will tire us out" such as "pursu[ing] sports or other leisure activities" because "reasonableness and modesty should move all of us to recognize our limitations and keep unnecessary commitments to a minimum"; Just after being told more-or-less for an entire weekend at the Circuit Assembly that we should be preparing to exit this system of things, not planning for an extended stay ("Noah didn't build a nicer house at the same time he was building The Ark" - was the illustration used)......But The Society gets to build a new Rec-Center????!!!! With our money???!!!!

  I am not opposed to Rec-Centers in general, but I find it hard to believe that after all of these years, "in the time we are living" The Branch feels the necessity to provide such a luxary to The Bethel Family.

  Couldn't all of the money (Millions, no doubt) be spent on something more condusive the furthering our "urgent message" (i.e. A Super Bowl or World Cup advertising spot)?

  What about all of the months (maybe years) of planning and construction? What about the man power and expense to all the volunteers that travel to New York to work on the project? Couldn't all of those resources be better allocated elsewhere?

  This is a complete joke.

  i am one of the few people on earth who never had a jehovah's witness knock on my door.

  my wife was the first witness i ever met.

  i did notice certain personality traits after being around some of the people who left the religion.

  MLE is dead-on. I'm not a Jehovah's-Witness-Basher by any stretch of the imagination, but he's absolutely right. Jehovah's Witnesses will not hesitate to directly insult someone else's beliefs to their face, or in front of a large audience. They are taught to feel exceptional. This has been a major beef of mine since I first starting doubting a few years ago.

  I don't think it is directly any individual Witnesse's fault that they feel this way, but it's still pretty awful. They are indoctrinated to feel 'special', and their mutual struggle in The Ministry only amplifies that sense.

  Proof? This would be a huge deal for me if I could find written proof.

  I'm putting together a binder of information and I'd like to include it.

  Otherwise...I'll just have to beleive it's bullshit. (Not that I would put it past them, but it doesn't have a leg to stand on without written proof.)

  Where does it say in the document that the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society owns stock in the company? I saved it as a .pdf and searched it and did not see a single blip that mentioned who its major stock-holders were.

  Assembly/Convention Accounting

  just having had my circuit assembly recently, i felt that the expenses in a watchtower-owned building seemed extremely over-inflated.

  over $9000 for two days.

  there were approximately 750-800 in attendance each day.

  don't get all excited...i don't mean lastnight.

  spankings were a regular occurence in my family, and don't think that was uncommon for born-in jws.

  my parents loved the line "we spank you because we love you.

  I think it really depends on the child. Some children don't respond to verbal admonition, "time-out" or variations thereof, or reproof but respond very well to physical discipline.

  I'm sure that most children change as they mature. So, I guess the trick would be in paying enough attention to your child's response to see if something was working still, or if it needed to be changed.

  I'm sure that in most cases a healthy mix would do the trick. I also would prefer to lead with admonition and reproof, with physical discipline as a last resort. (That sounds like it came out of a Watchtower )
