Great looking building. I always think about those who first built it the people, where did they come from, what were they like, you know things like that. Old building are really neat. But I seem to remember many years ago when it was OK to start building more kingdom halls. I think it was in the late 70's or early 80's. One of the things the Wt. said was do not use a design that looked like a Wt. Down in FL near Tampa there was a KH that had Wt. on every corner. I use to think that was neat. I think sometime in the 80's they sold it. I don't know what happen to it after that. But nothing that old here in the U.S. the only stone structure that is really old in the U.S. is in St. Augustine FL It's a old spanish fort. Made with coral stone. It's really neat also. Totally ADD

So I Went back to my old Kingdom Hall Today...
by cofty in...because it's now an art gallery.. it was really strange to have a look around the building and see what they have done with it.
a lot of the old kh features are still there.
they have kept the old platform, it gets used as a music venue on occasions.. i went up on the platform and faced the hall to bring back memories of the hundreds of times i stood there giving talks.. they have quite a few of the old chairs and the magazine/literature counter is still there but it has been moved beside the stage and painted.. all those huge windows have been restored and the place is full of light.. you can see a lot of pictures at their website, they have called it "the berwick watchtower".. the owner asked my wife and i if it was our first visit - hahaha.

How successful we're quickly builds in your area
by joe134cd ini remember hearing about quickly builds how this was a sign of jehovah's spirit that the kh could be built in 3 days.
but what i am wondering is just how successful we're these builds.
i can think of a couple of halls that were built by the quickly built methods that i would suspect they would of lost money on.

Mold, Mold and more Mold. In FL that is what happen to many QB halls. Also with wood frame exterior walls those pesky termits was the other problem. One of the Ocala halls half the walls were replace because of termits. That is one big reason the QB ended. Also the RBC has become a big bureaucracy with all there rules and regulations and how all the vol. have to qualify and take safety classes. It is no longer fun going to one it is just another freebee the Wt. gets from the witnesses. Totally ADD

Amen flipper to that. Altanta 1969. Each day temp. close to 100 degrees almost everyday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for 6 or 7 days. By 3 p.m. every afternoon thunder storms with lightling by 4 p.m. steam bath. All 50,000 plus sitting in a big bowl getting heat posion. Because of the large crowd Altanta had a ice shortage that week. I remember standing in line for lunch and just as I came up to the window to get something they would close the window for the afternoon session to start. That was the convention from hell. After the convention was over we spent a week in bed from heat exposure. The Wt. was out of their mind for having a outdoor convention in Altanta in middle of July. And of course all I remember from it was the heat from hell. Totally ADD

I really need some help to get out of this religion
by doughnutkitty inhi, i've been lurking on this site for quite a while after recently having doubts about the "truth".
i've read a lot of posts about problems with the doctrines, mind control, the beliefs, brainwashing that jehovah's witnesses and their literature, as well as their history.
now only being a sixteen year old born in who isn't baptized or unbaptized, i've come to find all this information incredibly overwhelming.

i'm surprized i haven't read anything about marijuana and 'the truth".. weed is getting legalized all over the place and california, in particular, is loaded with whacked-out witnesses.
since it can be prescribed as a medical treatment (here and there), i imagine the wts might have to do some doctrinal gymnastics to df folks for using it.

If the "Governing Body" arrangement is so effective and sanctioned by Jehovah
by confusedandalone inthen why in the world was it only effective for what 10 years tops beforeit dissappears?.
there is never any direct mention of it anywhere - and even if implied how many decisions did it make?
if it was such a cornerstone and vital to the proper flow of god's earthly organization why doesn't it have a clear track record of existence as well as successful decisions.

In elder school at Patterson in 2009 this is the example they gave us to prove there is a GB. Heb. 13:17 were it says "Be obedient to those who are taking the lead among you and be submissive." Then we went to the footnote on the bottom of the page which said "verse17 taking the lead among you" they show in the footnote "Or,'are governors of you" Gr. he-gou-me' nois hy-mon'. See Mt 2:6 ftn, "Governors."
So by this footnote which as far as I know is only in the NWT they have come up with a group of man who are the GB which runs this cult. To me this was a very lame way of trying to convince us that having a GB is scriptural. Totally ADD
