Onacruse,
I thought your were words were so good, that I asked my wife to come take a look. I had to wait for a TV commercial, but she took a look and agreed, and said, spontaneiously, "Very Good".
Now, on a related subject, my favorite song is Nature Boy, sung by Nat King Cole and Gracie Slick of the Great Society, The Jefferson Air Plane and Jefferson StarShiip: "There was a boy, a very strange enthanted boy. He talked of many things, fools and kings, and then he said to me: "Greatest thing you'll ever learn, is to love and be loved in return.'"

An epiphany, and prelude to other thoughts
by onacruse inwell, this is being a remarkable couple of weeks for me; one of those moments i'll remember for the rest of my life.
not to be melodramatic, but i think "epiphany" best describes what i'm experiencing.. a little history: i was born and raised a jw, bethel-bound at 8, baptized at 10. always a book-worm, liked to study math, science, and old wts publications (what a combo lol).
when i wasn't vacation pioneering (as it was called then), i spent my summers in my room, frequently reading for 16 hours at a stretch.

So, who sleeps in early, and who sleeps in late?(fluff)
by obiwan in.
i find that i can't sleep in late on the weekends.i'm up at 5:30 in the morning during the week and by the time the weekend comes around, if i can sleep till 7:30 i'm doing good.
even if i stay up till midnight i still get up around 8:00.the only way i sleep in late is if i've been drinking all night or i'm sick.. so how does everyone else do with thier sleeping habits?

My sleep habits are quite varied. In general, I am a night person. Usualy, I stay up until midnight, and I sleep as long as I want to. (I am retired and can do that.)
There have been times when I stayed up all night, when I was working on my family history, and I slept all day. There have been times when I slept for nearly 24 hours. My wife used to worry about my sleep patterns, but like all my other quirks, she has learned to accept them. (It's about time, after 40 years of marriage, don't ya think?) -

Eric Hoffer says we'll probably never recover completely
by DanTheMan infrom the true believer, p. 87:it is doubtful whether the fanatic who deserts his holy cause or is suddenly left without one can ever adjust himself to an autonomous individual existence.
[...] an individual existence, even when purposeful, seems to him trivial, futile and sinful.
to live without an ardent dedication is to be adrift and abandoned.

Hey Dan,
As you know, I am generally upbeat. However, I am going through a bad time myself right now. (This is not like me, but it is happening.)
Well, I will get through it, and I will see better days. I am very depressed right now, but I know that there will be sunshine after the storm.
We do have our friends to help us through these dark moments. -

Dan, I did not address your question, and I will now attempt to do so as best as I can. How did I become independant? I am not sure how I did it. I would say gradually over time. I set out to be independent, much as you are doing. I just set out with baby steps, and then bigger steps, much as you are doing. Dan, it ain't easy, and is not always fun, but the goal is a good one. You know I love you as a brother, and I hope your journey is a good one. Take care dear friend, Larc

I agree with Francois on the power and importance of Hoffer's book. As a "true believer", he was not talkiing about the average member of a group or organization. He was talking about the zeolots, and how their mind works. If a true believer leaves one organization, they move to another and they they have the same zeal for a different cause. Was Hoffer's book scientific? It is sociology, and sociology at its finest in my opinion. Was he a scholar? No, he was a long shoreman with no advanced education, but his work was fine indeed.

Have You Spoken To Anyone Here From This Forum ?
by RAYZORBLADE inobviously the answer for many of you is, an overwhelming yes.
the reason i am posting this is, for some or perhaps many, they only post or im(instant message/e-mail) other members, but have not spoken to them via the phone.
i'm aware that for some, calling long distance is a financial concern, thus the e-mail thing/im works fine and serves its purpose.

I remember back in the old days, when we had six month assemmblies. We had had very little vacation time left when they were over, so no, we did not have much discretionaray time. During the year, we pioneered at the rate of 200 hours a month, and lived under a bridge, in a card board box. Life was tough in those days, but so wonderful, because we knew that Jah, would be there for us at any time.
I sure hope you appreciate my sincerety in writing this to you.
I know you do. -

WT's Billions $$$$$$$ & and NOT one Nursing Home for the Old
by JT inas i looked at these photos i could not help but to think of the $$$$$$ billions that they own around the world and they have not setup one retirement home for it's members.
outside of any members who are bethelites such as co, do, missionaries who have spent 40-60yr of service to the corp they have no where to go.
