Anybody remembers 'Mr. Coffee' an agitator @ Bethel c. 1980's. He was a bum(?) w/ a cup of coffee always in his hands that always stood outside of Bethel. He may have been protesting or an 'apostate' but I didn't know any better at that time.Anybody know whatever happen to him? Or what was his story

I'm not an advocate of Dinkins - But at least he was a decent man. Crime went down across the USA, should Rudy get credit for that as well? Racial profiling when up during Rudy terms, I think he should get credit for that. Sharpton, Jesse or any one else doesn't speak for me - They are not my leaders. But I respect the causes they fight for. There were/are many other 'so call' leaders in the city. However the REAL heros/leaders are the ones you don't hear or see.

Rudy would have been the GREATEST Mayor in history if he was more sensitive to the needs African Americans. He Boldly said he wouldn't speak to any Black representative or leader in the city. It seems that since the democrats helped Major Dinkins win the election against him, back in the days, he had an vendetter against African Americans when he finally won. That's just the tip of the iceberg, not to mention the ways he handled the police killing of Amadou and Dorismond. Speaking of Hoffer's "The True Believer." I just received the book via Amazon today. But itll have to wait until I finish reading my other books (2 many books 2 little time :) Im sure itll be similar to the other books I read on the subject, but Im always open to learning some thing new.
Francois - What can I say. Thats the first time, I can remember, someone making a judgmental comment to me since I left the Borg over five years ago. Join another cult? LOL. Just for the record, the only cult Im joining is ME :) Ive seen enough to know the futility of joining a religion/cult, political organization, etc. and expect any real change in my lifetime. No one can speak for me or represent my needs but me. The political activities have nothing to do with me wanting to belonging, I do it out of respect for those who marched before me - " Power concedes nothing without a demand. " Beside, I do it because I can!

Ever since leaving the Borg I've had the pleasure of behind involved in several protest marches and demonstrations. Being in NYC presents many causes to speak out against. Many folks outside of NYC may love/like Rudy G, the formal Mayor/Dictator of the city, but he was the subject of many protest rallies while he served for two terms. I've also participated in the rally against the our President Selected Bush (The Shadow Inauguration) in DC as well as The Redeem the Dream March in 2000. I eagerly look forward to the Silent Lambs March next month and the Reparations March in DC on the 17th.
My question: Did you get politically involved in affairs (voting, marching, petitions, etc) once you left the Borg?

Not bad objectivity - really. Reminds me of what I read recently: "They leave the church, but they can't leave the church alone"; "The phenomenon is psychologically analogous to people coming from an ugly divorce who become each other's most bitter enemies."
Here's my twist - The reason I've involved in the anti-cult (JW) movement is because I feel my rights as a human being have been violated. It's similarly, but not identical, to the civil rights movement. Anytime folks feel their rights are trampled on or suffer injustice, they want to correct the problem and make it better for the current and next generation. Not doing anything amounts to consent. As much as I would love to "leave the church alone," I can't b/c I know first hand lives and families are being destroyed by this cult. Granted, by being involved in trying to make changes in the Borg. I make myself no better than they are, b/c the end result will be the same - people will do whatever they have to do to survive.

in fact we use to take pride in telling 'white' lies for the sake of the kingdom service, including taking pride in the way our children told lies in the same manner.. what lies have you or your children told for 'sacred service?

this morning's paper had an article on the amish [nothing in depth, just about how they sell their wares at local markets] but it brought to mind the ideas of the amish - they want no part of the world, they don't like to call attention to themselves, don't baptize little children, and they shun those who leave the faith.
i was just wondering if anyone here could shed some light on how jws view the amish.
are they impressed?

believe it or not i've purchased two cars (oldsmobile) through the borg connection - the circuit leasing group.
admittedly both cars were pretty reliable and pretty maintenance free.
the first car i brought from them i had to pick it up at bethel, a brother was driving it up from texas.

I got the car, keys. papers, etc without paying any money. They trusted that my check would clear, etc. Even when I went to Bethel (360 Furman) to pick it up, the brother holding it didn't even ask me for ID. Every year they send me a JW calendar, pads, key chains, etc. Of course they don't know my current status as a JW :)
Anyway, the 2nd car is getting old and I'm going to get a Honda Accord (I always wanted one.) Any one have a new Honda and could you tell me how you like it? I've already read all the reviews on line, but I just wanted to hear personal testimonies.

The JR Brown thing also applies with corporations, catholic church, government, etc. They use the 'token Black' to issue the press statements in the light of 'bad light.'
However, JR Brown is NO TOKEN BLACK. The man is over qualified for his position.
