  Silliest thing that Witnesses told you was wrong?

  there are two things.

  in the early and mid 80s there were witnesses saying that the cartoon characters the smurfs were not acceptable for witnesses.

  i had two smurf cartoon books and my mother made me throw them away.

  Funny, I remember the smurf story too. My litle bro had one hanging over his crib. I pleaded with my step mom to remove it after I had heard this story from my mom. I swear I saw that things head do a 360 :). The fear factor starts very early when you are raised JW. Ever listen to the Bible Story tapes? Jehovah is Scarrry! Demon stories of possesed dolls from garage sales abound in the car groups in service . Anything out of the ordinary and a little scarry is ascribed to the demons. I personally was terrified of them. Yeah demons AND smurfs. I'm am still in utter disbelief that I was a part of this sad story.

  I'm sorry, I know I'm nitpicking, but Everyone withholds truth from time to time. Information is not ALWAYS volunteered and it is not always deserved . A lie is told when someone has the purpose of deceiving. Holding truthful info back doesn't ALWAYS qualify as a lie. For instance; do you share ALL truthful info that you know with children, strangers, or even adults you know. There are occasions that call for discretion and not dishonesty. If we chuck the wt and just use the words quoted in that scripture at Matt., I think the point is clearer.

  SPIDERMAN..SPIDERMAN..DOES WHAT EVER A SPIDER CAN

  ok even at my old age[8>] i still like the super hero action flicks.. the better ones anyway.

  the first superman, the first batman and even some of the sequels to bat man were not bad.. how ever this week-end it seemed like everyone went to see spiderman all at once so i didn't go yet.. they just gave the stats on the news.. spiderman grossed over $$$114,000,000.00 so far and still counting.. did anyone go see it this week-end????.

  Grunt, I know where you are coming from, but I think you did take a little liberty with that point number 3. Just because you are aware of some truth does not obligate you to share that truth with just anybody. And that does not make you a liar. While there is a sick and judgemental tone to the wt publication that you quoted, the BASIC point is not necessarily false or even unworthy of consideration.

  Continued . . . My husband is stepping down -elder

  over a week ago i shared that my husband was stepping down as an elder last wednesday.. well, for all those inquiring minds that want to know, my husband's efforts were a total bust.

  first he talked to one elder who adamantly refused to accept his resignation.

  he encouraged and demanded that he stay.

  This is a very interesting story. I do want to say that both I,and a relative have made it known to elders that we have read COC at two separate congregations and no action was taken. I also have yet another relative who did the same, no action taken (although they did pester her until she finally DA'd herself). Has anyone been da'd or df'd just for reading the book?

  More than anything else I hated "service". It made me feel like an idiot. I always put myself in the "householder"'s shoes. How would I view these people coming to my door, with this presentation? I would probably view them as oddballs. I mean we've all been at the door with some pretty pitiful presenters, people that we ourselves would shoe off our front porch; yet this may be that "householder"'s only chance at life before the end comes? If I hadn't been raised in the "truth" I would have died at the door a dozen times.

  while discussing the current state of affairs re: pedophilia in the catholic church with a friend, i started talking about the same situation within the jws.

  she asked me, what do the two have in common that makes it possible for molestations to be covered up and denied?

  in short, what do they have in common that has allowed them to get away with it for so long?.

  Number 2 IS normal. Pedophillia is abnormal and WRONG, but you are not going to tell me that it's abnormal for an "adult male" to be "alone" in company with children. It IS normal. In fact it's ordinary. The problem is always a few sons of bitches that ruin what's normal. Xander hit it on the head. This crime is not limited to ANY religion. Or for that matter any subgroup at all. There are rotten bastards out there people, they are in the minority, but they are out there. We gotta deal with this, among other sad truths in this world. What I don't get is why it still is shocking when it involves a priest or a member of the JW"s. Or why it even matters. If it is getting covered up , 99 times out of 100, it is the parent whose to blame, for the cover up. All a parent has to do is go to the police. I defy anyone to argue that point with me. I know there are people who have been hurt out there. And I am truly sorry. But did anyone really think they were safe from this sort of thing because it was "Jehovah's Organization"; please.

  Is it natural to be with one person for a lifetime

  i've always wondered if there really is such thing as a paradise and a hope for eternal life would we be limited to interacting with only one person?

  the point could be argued from several perspectives.

  several scriptures would suggest that a man and woman once joined in marriage are to be tied only to each other indefinitely.
