Perhaps you missed the part where I said we have a $500 per person out of pocket max. That's per calendar year. So god forbid something happens next year, oops, write another check for $500.

You missed the point. Telling stories proves NOTHING. For every nightmare I can find a bright spot.

If my arguments are *that* poorly constructed, surely it should take you less than 10 minutes to shred them. Now try to go back, bullet point by bullet point, and address them.

I've lived in the southwest all my life and have never seen a union around here . Unions are "akin" to communists, at least that is what the older people think. I for one think it might be nice to have had a choice, our state is a right to work which cleaverly makes the naive think we are proteceted, but we aren't. You can be fired for any reason, no reason. You really have almost no firghts and barring a major osha violation, they won't touch an emplorer. Also our workers comp laws are a joke. don't get sick or hurt here.

Would I be right if I guessed Arizona?

Arizona employers also have the right to determine who is an employee for the sake of insurance. More retardation.

A few weeks go by and during that time he has tried to access any of the financial programs that might help him out but his income is over the poverty limit of $12,000.

You and all of your friends should have pooled your money to help him.

By the way, don't you think we should have National Food Service? Plenty of children go to bed hungry at night.

Personal stories mean everything or do you discount rape victims, mental and physical abuse, sexual abuse and the millions of those personal stories that force us to change our way of thinking? Personal stories provide us with the insight into why change is needed and bring to light the suffering and tragedy of systems that are at times impossible to live with. Yes there are always stories from the other end of the spectrum but those won't solve the problems in this case simply because the lack of compassion or desire for change doesn't come from comfort - it is derived from desperation.

OK. Here's my personal story, let's see what it proves.

Three years ago my husband was supposed to have a simple outpatient procedure. Instead of going home in four hours, he spent four WEEKS in the hospital, near death a couple of times.

When all was said and done, the entire charade cost $135,000. Thanks to our great foresight and financial planning () we paid the entire $500 out of pocket max in one day from our overflowing checking account. My husband's employer picked up the rest.

So there, you see? The system is not broken and does not need fixing. It works just fine. There is no change needed.

So go ahead, enjoy sucking each other off instead of answering real questions. That's why this debate will never move ahead. You can't answer simple questions.

I work with unions on an almost daily basis. You give an outsider the most succinct synopisis of unions in this country I have ever seen on this forum.

Unions have held corporations hostage. "You WILL pay Booby $36 an hour to load boxes." In my humble opinion the time for the Union has come and gone. Unions were at one time critical, that's before the laws of the country caught up with the games employers play. Now we have OSHA and a MULTITUDE of other federal oversight agencies, making the unions not only useless but dangerous.

They have crippled the airline industry, refusing to negotiate with management for 'the good of the union.'

They are working hard on negotiating themselves right out of a job.

As for Swife and Swalker, try to ignore. They like media sound bites but don't know how to answer questions with credible information.

For example:

Welfare does not at any time relate to things like vacation time, overtime, and .... workplace safety (you really don't care about anyone else do you? Why did you even list this one?) EXCEPT when employee benefits are taken away to subsidize unprofitable company.

this nimrod will not even acknowledge the existence of the USDOL (Department of Labor) Pension and WELFARE Benefits Administration.

They can't admit to being wrong. This is the way the whole thread has gone. No surprise. If *I* can disrupt their stupid little arguments, don't you think multi-billion dollar insurance companies would have a heyday? This is why NHS is nowhere NEAR to getting passed. Thank God.

No one is insisting on one certain plan at the present time, but something needs to be done and fast!!! Read the papers and see all the corporations laying off and moving overseas and one of the biggest complaints.... HEALTH CARE BENEFITS!!!!

Here in Fresno county last quarter, we lost a private employer of 300 people who closed their doors. De Francesco brothers Tomato Processors.

They cited 4 reasons they were forced to close.

Health Care benefits
cost of gasoline
energy (PG&E)
worker's comp

All of these are legitimate cost concerns. Why only decry health care? Why not have a state run energy department like Mexico? (ooooh I could just see Bandai Bush's buddies doing the happy dance over this one!)

Simple. State-run monopolies are more rife with waste than private corporations. At least private corporations have profit as one of their goals, which ensures that they are delivering as efficient a product as possible.

well how about this?

Let's move forward with a National Healthcare agenda. Only, instead of it being MANDATORY let's make it VOLUNTARY and competitive with private insurance.

Let's be very transparent with BOTH so that people will have choices and freedoms to decide what's best for their families. Ah, freedom, the principle this country was founded on!

Then, if NHS is such a great deal, surely EVERYONE will elect to be on it, including those who can afford to pay for their own healthcare.

Sound reasonable?
