  just an fyi for anyone interested - there is a major drive on to push the bill forward for national healthcare in the usa.

  LittleToe, pardon my being elitist for calling a $60K salary meager. I should have said "Relatively meager" . I make more than this. I did not have to finance 12 years of University Education to do this, and I am not at danger for getting sued off my ass if I make a mistake at work, either. Yes, Little Toe, $60K is meager for the investment (time and financial) required to become a dr.

  You can't convert the current system without addressing

  • how we train and fund future generations of health care professionals
  • entitlement program mentality
  • how we finance research, development and marketing of pharmaceuticals
  • lawsuit structures for medical malpractice and malpractice insurance

  In Six's and Little Toe's world, the Collective would pay for the Individual to have as many children as that one wants. Then, the Collective would pay for said Individual's children. If someone doesn't want to be part of the collective, that person is Evil and Greedy. Go figure.

  I'm well familiar with this piece of legislation. Here is a snapshot of other "Governmental entities" the bill would create.

  The bill would create a health insurance policy board to establish

  policy on medical issues and various other matters relating to the

  Sammie's wife, sorry but you are full of chicken shit. Stop trying to scare people by bringing terrorism into the picture.

  The September 11th Fund, created by The New York Community Trust and United Way of New York City, has completed its mission and dissolved as of December 2004. Unprecedented in many ways -- from the enormity of the attack to the tremendous volume of donations from people across the globe -- the Fund collected $534 million from more than two million donors. It addressed the broadest range of victims with the widest range of needs. Hundreds of experts helped design its programs which were implemented through 559 grants totaling $528 million.

  It's nice that you are in a better position because of being productive, but there are plenty of productive people who don't have the means or the access to affordable health insurance in this country. Most of those productive people are the very ones who make it possible for some others to afford the finer things in life while they themselves struggle to make ends meet.

  That wasn't my argument so please don't take it there. My statement was all other things equal, a PRODUCTICE member of society is a BETTER HUMAN BEING that someone who leaches off of the effort of others. Yes, that makes some people better than others. ::::hears socialists like Six shuddering::::

  We are already in a health care provider shortage in this country, you wanna see it skyrocket, set a single vendor that dictates that after 8 years of med school and another 4 finishing residency, a DR. makes no more than say, $60,000. Yea right. How many student loans you gonna pay off with that?

  While reading this thread it is so clear that people don't know or understand their options. If your COBRA runs out, you are usually eligible for a ported (convertible) health plan if you're insured with one of the majors carriers. When you run out of COBRA you don't run out of coverage always.

  I ;recently had to drop my health care insurance. I ;could no longer afford the premiums so now i join the ranks of the folks without coverage. Cross my fingers and hope i never have to have surgery.

  Did you look at moving to a catastrophic plan? SOMETHING is better than nothing.

  OK, so let's call a truce.

  I'll agree to National Healthcare, and would even encourage legislators to adopt this model IF:

  • There's a fail -safe provision that does not allow any additional claims against Unemployment Insurance and Welfare because people are quitting their jobs. You say I'm foolish to believe people quit their jobs, I know of 3 people who timed the birth of their children to milk the welfare system and, in their mid-30's have NEVER held a full time job.
  • We set limits of how many children each person may have based on their financial ability to care for those dependents. If you can't afford a child, you need to be on mandatory Depo- injections 4 times a year (or something similar). This save taxpayers from future losses.
  • The estimate of 3.3% budget has a performance clause. Namely, if we go over 3.3%, we sieze the home and all personal assets of the "experts" who put this thing together including those who made NHS their campaign platform.
  • All chronic disease patients are carefuly monitored so that, as a society, we can be sure they are compliant with their medication regimen, thereby saving NHS a ton of money.
  • Research and development of new medicines will no longer be done in this country or by American owned pharmaceuticals; since there will be a single vendor they will dictate the price. No further drug development. After all, this is driven by the profit motive of the Pharma companies, they have no business making a PROFIT.
  • We force people to become medical providers, set a quota and see it through. You say no, but since I know that Dr's are paid on average less than $45 per DR. office visit by Medicare, no one can afford to be in practice at that reimbursement level. When I left NY state, Medical was paying $17 for an extended office visit!!!! $17 for one hour of medical services, to pay all of the nurses and keep the lights on.

  Here's a part of the 2006 Medicare fee schedule. Yes people these are reimbursement amounts. Do you know may Dr's who want to practice, or can even afford to, when the average Medicare reimbursment per hour TOTAL is less than $100?   LDH, do you fear losing your job at the Health Insurance co., if a 'NHC' system is implemented here? Is that what fuels your constant anger and coldheartedness toward all who aren't in the same enviable lofty position as you have found yourself in ? Is is possible, because you did not "plan" on NHC ever becoming a reality that you might become a victim of "poor planning?"

  I haven't seen where anyone said they 'don't care.' What I don't care for is a system that fixes only one leg on a totally rotted out chair. Oh goody, a stable leg.

  You genuinely worked with doctors and still felt: "It was downright rude to refer to a medical procedure as 'scraping my insides.'"?

  Spoken like a man. No Doctor with any scintilla of bedside manner would refer to it as that....leastaways over here. Perhaps that's why I prefer privatized healthcare.

  No one who advocates NHS can show one example of a single vendor program in this country coming under budget.

  I bet the Drs can't wait to get reimbursed under NHS! Oh Goody! The only vendor to the elderly decides to cut your reimbursement by 5%, and who can argue against it?

  Or maybe, you can help the elderly figure out how to deal with the doughnut hole in their RX plan. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's probably because you've been visiting biased websites.

  Medicare for all? No thanks! I don't feel like waiting when I need my ass scraped!

  UH, NO, that was an 'example' of how insanely easy it is to search and find access to health care to those with no financial options.

  Regarding the emotion of your response, I don't give a shit what it was at the time of your post. It was downright rude to refer to a medical procedure as 'scraping my insides.' Dry wit doesn't excuse poor manners.

  How close do I work? 8 years ago I was the contracts manager (insurance) for a GYN practice in upstate NY. That was a lesson in how greedy DOCTORS are. I had to tell them things like, "NO OF COURSE you can't do that, it would be unethical." Pretty damn close. You only hear about the greed of the insurance companies.

  Never the greed of the hospitals and providers who want to hold the insurance companies hostage, especially if they are the only qualified provider in a certain geographic area.

  The more I think about all the people who say "I'm just working for the insurance" the madder I get. As soon as we put in NHS, these freaking losers will QUIT. Then they will claim unemployment and food stamps.

  What we need is a freaking twelve step program for our politicians, "How to wean losers off of Entitlement Programs and the belief that the lazy are just as valuable as the hard working"

  Step one--get rid of the freaking bleeding heart liberal politicians.

  Well, lets see...if you happen to live near one -

  o gimmee a freaking break. You know how many people live many miles from medical care?

  The sound bites you take from websites don't prove your point. Yes, you are expected to pay for medical care when services are rendered unless you have made other arrangements. Why is that a surprise? Do you just walk into your neighborhood grocery store and take what you need?

  You might also educate yourself as to union tactics, and why the union uses politicians like good old Teddy Kennedy to filibuster bills like ASSOCIATION HEALTH PLANS. You seem to believe the Unions operate at the same moral level as Jesus. Good one.

  If we put in NHS I better not hear any of you bitching about how you NOW don't have the money to do other stuff....and why can't we get a program of National Food Service, after all, isn't everyone entitled to eat?
