  this is from a jw discussion group that tends to be full of apologists for the teachings.

  when we lived in livermore, ca a special talk was given by brother from bethel.

  he used an illustration that really stuck with me to describe the role of the fds.

  Hmmm......Let's repeat that sentence and see how much wiggle room there is.

  "circumstances"

  "seemed to"

  "warrant"

  Hmmmm.....What circumstances? *laughs out loud* Oh, yes, the trumped up circumstances that THEY THEMSELVES made a big deal of. "seemed to" -- has the appearance of importance. "warrant" -- deserves a public talk, a district convention talk, a special needs talk and a whole issue dedicated the subject.

  I will re-translate. "The big pile of steaming crap that we conjured out of thin air and dedicated entire issues of the Watchtower and Awake to, well, any person of logical thought would have done the same thing and warned their followers."

  How odd. I can't recall any other religion in 1974 getting their followers worked into a blather over this! Yet, they, the "discreet" slave whom Jehovah has supposedly appointed to watch over his flock, did.

  Any Vegans on the Board?

  my new year's resolution is to make the lifestyle change to the vegan-pure vegetarian diet: no animal derived foods.. it is a change i have considered before on different occasions.

  i didn't stick with the diet in the past due to lack of information, or perhaps the abundance of misinformation available on the optimum diet.

  i've never been grossly overweight, probably never over 170 lbs.

  Dave,

  I've refrained from commenting till I read quite a few posts. I support your endeavor. My family is not vegetarian, except for about three or four days a week. I completely agree with eyeslice. Our Western dependence on MEAT has cost us a lot more than our waistlines! If everyone gave up meat one day a week permanently , the price of gas would drop farther.

  Think about the transport of animals, grains or food, trips to the slaughterhouse, packinghouse, and grocery stores....all dependent on gasoline.

  St Ann may not believe it but I too belong to a CSA and buy organic when I can. When I can't, I buy responsibly such as free-range fed meats. I have two freezers and constantly rotate my green veggies. My family requests green veggies two or three nights a week; sauteed spinach etc.

  Dave, I no longer drink soda or coffee and here is my preferred drink.

  Child Predator Caught by my Son

  friday night my oldest son spent the night at one of his friends house.

  his friend and wife went to bed and james, my son, stayed up and played video games with their two children, son 11, daughter 9. the son and james went to bed.

  the little girl continued to play and fell asleep on the sofa.. james got up a little after midnight to get a drink of water.

  about a year ago, he had an emotional crisis and questioned a lot of things, including his faith.

  i thought (and hoped) that he would consider his beliefs and come realize that his beliefs were part of his crisis.

  this was not the case, but he and i continue to be on good terms.

  This story, repeated millions of times, is happening every day in the lives of grown XJW children who have moved forward and away from this religion, and the parents who don't know HOW to be proud of them, or even happy for them.

  They are killing her.

  wow it has been such a long time since i've posted here.

  i've for the most part been able to move on with life leaving the jws behind me.. but now i am being forced to deal with them again.

  my mom (jw) has been sick and discovered that she has a mass in her throat (lower part in her chest) that is making it hard for her to breath.

  I'm really sorry that your mom doesn't seem to be able to understand the severity of her condition. You may be able to reason with her by telling her that if she deteriorates rapidly, others will have to make medical decisions for her.

  I say again, if you claim that you are God's representatives on Earth, people should be able to tell that by how you treat the less fortunate. And I think that was LDH's main point.

  Nah, I'm sure Simon's right. I'm jealous. AND bitter.
