Iconoclast: My father- in-law knew Rutherford personally. We had dinner with the Schroeders from time to time. Used to go the Bethel farm when it was in Lansing, NY. First four congregations I met at as a kid were in homes, storefronts or converted apartments. I've been around awhile.

Yes, I did. I believed for 45 years of my life I would not die. I believed my mother would not die. This is the most cruel trick any organization could ever play on another human being. And to use this as a recruitment tool is downright criminal. I had to watch my mother die. I have come to the realization that I too will die. I can't put into words the anger and betrayal I feel. For those in who rationalize "Well, it wasn't all bad, was it?" That's like telling the woman who conceived a child from a rape "Well, it wasn't all bad, was it?"

JW's - Hard to admit that much of life was a waste
by xelder infrom my observations, i think many (especially older) jw's hold through the stupid doctrinal changes because they can't admit the alternative.. i had wished the jw kingdom hope was true, i needed it to be true.
i'm 5th generation and my parents, grandparents, great grand.....ect needed it to be true.
i have watched many "faithful" relatives hang on and die disappointed.

This goes along with the "zebra mentality" that the lion may get one or two but the rest of the herd will survive. My mother repeated that phrase "Armageddon is right around the corner" for 50 years. She died, as have millions of others, never realizing it was all a lie. Older witnesses will never leave. They'll die off as the rest of the herd waits for their reward of everlasting life.

Some JWs are exhibiting signs of violence because of WT hate speech. Read the threat to me and others posted at Topix yesterday
by AndersonsInfo inyesterday, i opened a topix account so i could post the information about watch tower representatives attending the political ocse meeting in poland for two weeks and the proof that they are an ngo.
one of the posters responded with these words: .
"barbs-info," eh?

Mass defection possible?
by stuckinamovement inthere are many of us who are trapped within the religion and are looking at leaving.
i was wondering..... if there was an organized and well publicized effort to leave the organization en-masse on a certain date yet to be determined, how many do you think would participate?.
one person leaves the org and it creates a small ripple.

UK newspaper interest in "mentally diseased", any Witnesses want to come forward?
by cedars infollowing the recent activity surrounding the "mentally diseased" apostate article, a major uk newspaper has expressed an interest in covering the story.
the correspondent as been told about this forum, and he is particularly interested in hearing from those inside the organisation, as i think few people are aware of how much unrest there is actually within witness ranks at the teachings of the society.. would anybody like to be used as a source, either anonymously or otherwise?
if so, it might be worthwhile saying a few words on this thread.

My Story: Raised as a witness since 1958. Went door to door at age 7. Grew up with the end "always near". That belief influenced every major decision in my life. Married during the scare of 1975. Assumed, as did all other Witnesses, that the end was imminent. Didn't go to college. Didn't save for a retirement. I became an elder. I was busy on the building projects. I gave talks at the conventions. After 34 years in a bad marriage, I left & found the love of my life. Told the " judicial committee" of my intentions & was promptly disfellowshipped. Had every intention of returning, but during the 4 yrs. the committee dragged its feet, I became disillusioned with the Witnesses. I went to sites like this one. I read Ray Franz's " Crisis of Conscience." I finally realized it was all a lie. If I could sue them to recover all the wasted years of my life I would.

It's nice to see things eventually work out. An old study of mine used to say " You can disagree without being disagreeable. " Too bad the GB never learned the art of dealing with human nature.

It must be true. I'm taking the fact that Buffalo beat the Pats this weekend as a sure sign of the end. (Which will most likely start with the destruction of all those crazy drivers in Boston.)
