Wierd District Convention experience Pioneer/Elder claim disapointment he's still not a C.O???
by Witness 007 inmelbourne australia district convention last saturday this jackass pioneer/elder gets on stage and relates how he and his wife have served where the need is great in many congs hoping for the "privledge" of being a c.o couple....he expressed "disapointment and discouragement" when he was not appointed....he moved to a new assignment in the chinese cong.. the speaker thanks him for his "honesty" but i was thinking what are his motives for serving his brothers?
is this a good example for pioneering?
must be a reason his ambition...... sorry i mean, goals could not be reached.

I see it as a man who is pioneering specifically for the purpose of gaining a 'higher' position. He's not doing it for "others" or out of concern for those in the 'world'.
Its bad heart syndrome in my book. A what can I get out of this for myself type of thing not a what can I give thing.

Philippians 2:5-11
by PSacramento inin paul's letter to the phillipans, typically dated 50-60 ad, paul says:.
your attitude should be the same as christ.
you being the very nature(form) of god, did not consider equality to god as something to be held on to (grasped), but made himself nothing, thaking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness.

New World Translation, is it the best bible translation?
by littlebuddy inmy jw elder friend said to me that the nwt is the best translation of the bible and that scholars have said as much.
is this true and is it the best?
are there scholars who disagree?.

TD,
One also haas to watch those 17-18th Century translations. A problem arises when we find that men of those times fancied the 'poetic' as a sign of high breeding and scholarship. This lent to all the occasions of pluperfect - present subjuntives being used in translations.
I'll wait until someone finds "the oldest" and translates that to English [which of course will be modern Eng]. Until then, I'll use whichever version I happen to have handy.

when we find the actual originals, we can THEN prove which is the best Bible translation, and NOT before
This is my thought on the matter. Until then, they're all in the same inacurracy boat; one no better than the next.

My life ... and how JWD came to be - Part 5
by Simon inmy life ... and how jwd came to be - part 1. my life ... and how jwd came to be - part 2. my life ... and how jwd came to be - part 3. my life ... and how jwd came to be - part 4. i swear, i thought it was only a couple of years at most since i wrote part 4 of "my life and how jwd came to be".
i re-read it after someone posted to it and brought it back on active topics and it was kind of prophetic in a way ... well, i had the 5 years part right if nothing else:.
it would be nice to visit the site (or whatever one is around then) in 5 years time to let people know how we're doing and find only a few of the same people still around.

Talk illustrations that need to be retired
by JimmyPage inmy dad used this one alot: it compared raising a child to holding a spring.
if you let go too soon the spring will fly off in an uncontrolled direction.
if you hold it too long you will wear your hand out and the spring will be no good.

I always got the impression they were a bit effeminate, not gay though. Maybe they were so skinny & frail from a lack of food.
As for the topic, some couldn't take having to work low paying jobs (due to education) and having to support themselves ... so they went to Bethel.
