That was Russell. When his prediction that the rapture would occur in 1914 after the 1800's fiasco failed, he went with 2nd Advent minds of his day and made it an "invisible" presence which is wholey unscriptual.
I believe the 1874 date came from Nathan Barbour.

Show mercy to doubters

Why would I believe in the vast universe that there isn't life on some other world?
Even if you're a bible believer, you believe there are Aliens flying about outer space ... aka Angels. They aren't from Earth and they aren't human. There's supposedly billions or trillions of them. They have to be doing something other than watching Earth; only need so many for that.
Also, Biblically, how does one "forget" about Noah and family if they're the only humans left? Apparently, your attention is being held by something else, maybe something going on elsewhere in the universe?
These are just my musings, mind you.

I'm surprised doesn't happen more often. Particularly when men are told they pretty much own their wives and wives are told to be submissive like slaves.
Had a case in Maryland some years ago where the husband killed his wife right outside the courthouse after an ex parte hearing.

Why haven't you been to the meetings?
by Zana insome cong-member asked my wife this question (in the street, stopping her on her bicycle) in a rather police-like fashion.
i wasn't there so i don't know her immediate reaction and response, but she got very upset afterwards and one day later this still occupies her mind.
i believe it's an emotional mix of anger, sadness, shame and guilt.. she doesn't like this intrusion in her privacy from some jws and on the next occasion she will try to make this person respect her boundaries (or just ignore her).
