  it has been 21 years since the 1995 article that pretty much buried the idea of the '1914 generation'.. remember those guys?

  the ones born in 1914 that would still be alive when the end of the system arrived.. i'm glad i'm old enough to remember going from door to door, preaching this belief.

  the reason i say that is because i have a lot of 'still in' jw friends and family.

  None of the dates make sense. Astrology isn't for professed Christians.

  It's no one's business to be guessing dates.

  1. It makes you look like a fool.

  2. You're saying The Word of God (aka Jesus Christ) is a liar.

  3 The Spirit IS Truth. So you call God's Spirit a liar when you present false dates while claiming to have the Holy Spirit / being "Spirit directed".

  4. If you claim the dates were "Spirit directed", then you are absolving any human of error. Ie. Jehovah is wrong and about his own date at that.

  From a Christian perspective this makes the one claiming such things : vainly INSANE

  Update on my recently disfellowshipped niece

  i had posted about a month ago that my niece, who just turned 15, was getting disfellowshipped.

  i learned this past weekend that she tried to commit suicide.

  between being df'd, and her dad not being around, it became too much for her.

  This is why baptizing those under 18 yrs of age should not be allowed. Why make fun of Catholics for baptizing babies when you in essence are doing the same thing?

  A teenager going through the hormone imbalance stage of life has no business getting baptized. They aren't even through the 'I need my peers to like and accept me' phase of life.

  I'm glad to hear your niece is doing better. May her progress continue.

  I'm getting baptized

  i know i've started similar topics before but this time i'm serious.

  my parents have been constantly pressuring me and after yesterday's watchtower study they asked me if i was going to be baptized this summer... and i said yes.

  i probably should have thought about it more before making a final decision, but they're pretty much forcing me to do it anyway.

  In the US it's a Title 6 violation, a federal crime, and child abuse.

  Your parents cannot force you, an underage dependent, to submit to a legal contract you do not want. Religion or no religion.

  Biblically, it is extremely unscriptual. No forced baptisms in there.

  Your are allowing your parents to make your baptism a lie to God.

  Negative Situations (This is for whomever is approved to be interviewed by reporters)

  Quick JW speak translation:

  If they ask him about negative or controversial topics, it's best to say no comment. Generally, people think anyone giving an answer is culpable.   Situaciones negativas

  Si le preguntan sobre temas negativos o controvertidos, es mejor no decir la frase: “Sin comentarios”. Por lo general, la gente concluye que quien da esa respuesta es culpable. Si no sabe la respuesta, diga con sinceridad: “No lo sé”. Y si le hacen una afirmación negativa, no la repita. Responda de manera positiva con un comentario breve y vuelva enseguida al tema del que quiere hablar.

  Ejemplo 1. Un reportero pregunta: “¿Por qué hay tanta gente que les tiene antipatía a los testigos de Jehová?”. Una respuesta positiva sería: “Los testigos de Jehová somos personas pacíficas que respetamos la ley y que nos esforzamos por ser ciudadanos ejemplares y buenos vecinos en nuestra comunidad. Aunque algunas personas no concuerden del todo con nuestras creencias, imitamos a Jesús llevándoles nuestro mensaje positivo, y el programa de la asamblea explica las razones”.

  Ejemplo 2. Un periodista pregunta: “¿Qué nos puede decir sobre lo que algunos ex miembros de su religión están diciendo en el exterior del local?”. Lo mejor es contestar algo positivo como: “Respetamos el derecho de los demás a tener su propia opinión. Pero nosotros estamos reunidos aquí para aprender cómo fortalecer nuestra relación personal con Dios”. Dirija nuevamente la atención a la asamblea.

  Ejemplo 3. Si le preguntan sobre 1975, podría decir: “Los Testigos de Jehová esperamos ansiosos el cumplimiento de las profecías bíblicas. Y aunque reconocemos que no sabemos la fecha exacta en la que se producirán esos sucesos, nos mantenemos a la expectativa, pues eso es lo que Jesús les aconsejó a sus discípulos que hicieran”. Entonces el hermano puede dirigir de nuevo la conversación hacia la asamblea. Si el entrevistador alude a ciertas personas implicadas en casos judiciales de la congregación, usted nunca debe acceder a hablar de ellas ni a dar opiniones basadas en casos hipotéticos. Tenga mucho cuidado con los programas en los que llama el público y con los programas informales de entrevistas. Evite programas que fomentan la controversia. Esté alerta para darse cuenta enseguida de si una entrevista empieza a convertirse en una discusión o en una tergiversación de los hechos, lo cual proyectaría una imagen negativa de nosotros. Por último, recuerde lo que dice Filipenses 4:5: “Llegue a ser conocido de todos los hombres lo razonables que son ustedes”. En todo momento sea paciente, franco, amistoso y positivo.

  i don't see this posted elsewhere, and i don't have the links besides this facebook one.. but here is a 45-minute long bethel talk about the changes at bethel including addressing the hard feelings of people who were given the axe.

  basically, everything must change.

  we gave remaining bethelites saturday off to do our bidding in "the field" and we give bethelites over 70 an extra day a week off (if you can find any such bethelites).

  I hope it backfires. I hope Congregation donations go bust as everyone uses their extra cash to personally help support the elderly couples dumped on them like used trash. Hand them the money or use Xtra to write a check for their gas and electric. Nothing goes into the box for Bethel. There's no one there anyway.

  I do that with certain "charities" ... cut out the middle man so much more than .10 of every dollar goes to the person in need.

  My goodness. They no longer want to be bothered with the oldz. Now boot them to Congregations which will be expected to take further care of them. I can just imagine some of the medical costs, food, shelter, general bills (electric etc) for elderly who are ineligible for SS benefits. Most have no children. No real savings.

  It's a task trying to make certain of your own elderly relatives well being with low paying jobs. Now throw some more on everyone.

  Is not the DOs not being serf enough to cut their own grass outside their free house or pay their own laundry costs not enough to burden everyone with?

  My brother died last night

  i found out this morning that my brother died last night, he was also an ex jw, 73 years old and died of heart disease and kidney failure.

  it was not totally unexpected, as he had been in poor health, but it's a blow, especially as i just lost another brother two years ago.

  there were six of us, now only four.
