We should remember people here have come from a place where they can't express an opinion. Now here, they simply don't know how and are still stuck in 'everyone must agree' mode.
Discussions should not be arguments. All points of view are valid.
let me start by saying that this forum has been helpful to me in many ways.
i haven't gotten involved in much commenting and i am not very assertive by nature so i've steered away from participating in debates.
but i have read threads often and had a sense of community.

todays daily text refers to a new?
explanation for doorkeepers that "death will be no more" would only refer to an earthly blessing, because it would be logically according to the text that in heaven no one ever died or death had never been there.
seems like wishful argument for the earthly paradise.. dont forget the 144000 members of the heavenly class that will receive heavenly blessing after death and used for decades rev.
Hmmmm, let's see what the Christ fellow said
Luke 20:34-36 NET
So Jesus said to them, "The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. [35] But those who are regarded as worthy to share in that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. [36] In fact, they can no longer die, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, since they are sons of the resurrection.
"They can no longer die" those resurrecteds.
Rev 20:7-15 appears to say the resurrection takes place AFTER Satan gets the final boot, not during the 1000 yr reign or before. It's at the point where the books of life are opened. If you were decent enough you get resurrected to life and as Jesus said "can no longer die". If you were plainly a no goodnick you get trashed and are not resurrected.
Seems simple enough to me.
As to there being death in heaven or not, no one knows. I do know they've got some angel police.
after watching ceders you tube video on muslim and jw shunning, i thought i'd look at some other ex religious you tubers, so i looked at the mormon ones, .
theres a lot of them but what struck me was the very similar mindsets and the way the internet made them start to question from a critical thinking point of view their own faith , it was just like another brand of the exact same thing and these people were experiencing the same thoughts as we get when we start to leave/question the "truth ",.
the main difference seems t be that jw shunning is totally merciless and never ending, and no real forgiveness takes place unless you cave in .
Luke 17:1-4 NET
Jesus said to his disciples, "Stumbling blocks are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come! [2] It would be better for him to have a millstone tied around his neck and be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. [3] Watch yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him. If he repents, forgive him. [4] Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to you saying, 'I repent,' you must forgive him."
Matthew 18:15-17 NET"If your brother sins, go and show him his fault when the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have regained your brother. [16] But if he does not listen, take one or two others with you, so that at the testimony of two or three witnesses every matter may be established. [17] If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. If he refuses to listen to the church, treat him like a Gentile or a tax collector.
Don't look for any mercy from JWs. They don't particularly care what Jesus said especially if an elder feels some butthurt about the situation.
the international bible students association of charles taze russell and his associates were influenced by other cults of his time most of which believed they were living in the last days , the end times of bible prophecy .. some of which were , the many adventists sects , the christadelphians , mormons ,and the adventists playing a huge influence on russells writings,.
was charles taze russell chosen by jehovah to lead a revival of the true religion on earth ?
over a hundred years ago ?.
Russell truly believed he was living in the time of the rapture. It seemed to me that guy was just trying to understand the Bible better which is why he didn't mind meeting with those who had differing viewpoints. Pretty much it was a bunch of people from various protestant groups throwing ideas and dates around.
I don't think he was actally trying to lead anything. Also, he could be questioned about a particular belief.
WTBTS is embarrassed by his means of calculations and that whole pyramid fixation. Although, Egyptology was all the rage back then. Even the Mormons claimed being chosen from some ancient Egyptian writings given to them by an apparently non English literate angel.
Now Rutherford, he was the arrogant one that claimed the group was "chosen", came up with using what's thought to be God's name (even Jesus didn't do that), began to degrade other Christian groups, and to set up the monster which cannot be questioned.
even though i now consider myself an atheist and have little time for religion as such , i have to acknowledge that some religious institutions , and even some i would consider a cult more so than others , do a fantastic job in the field of charitable works.. for so many in our communities who are disadvantaged ,in one way or another , the down and outs , for a better phrase , those that have succumbed to alcoholism , drug dependency , mental illness in it`s many forms , homeless people , juveniles suffering abuse of one sort or another at home , domestic violence , etc.
etc.
the list just goes on and on .. yet their are religious charitable institutions who are at the forefront of helping these people offering and lending a hand both physically , emotionally , and even financially to support these people without judging them .. so even though i consider myself an atheist i can commend what these religious institutions do to for these people... i can`t say the same thing for jehovah`s witnesses who will take , take , take and give nothing in return.. smiddy.
Our area has individual churches and some sort of consortium that will pay a person in needs rent and electric. No questions asked. They also run various types of shelters, kitchens, food banks, abuse programs, etc.
Their are parishioners who go around to fire victims and hand them money and food items.
In general neighbors who will bring water, blankets, and chairs for anyone involved in a personal tragedy. No questions asked.
These are good "works".
A JW has been led to believe "works" are handing out WTBTS literature.
I liked being a slave to men who didn't know my name or gave one fuck about me.
So kewel!!!!
On a fixed income, I now get emergency food from Christendom and other food banks. When my place burned down, thank God for the Red Cross.
ok i have been out awhile-almost 20 years can someone please explain this cart business to me.
i guess it's street .
witnessing correct?
It's no different than those who popped out projectors to show the photo dramas.
I rather like it if it's manned by elderly witnesses who shouldn't be walking all around anyway. Give them a break.
if i have time i always talk to jws when i see a cult cart.. they are in a public forum promoting a harmful ideology therefore they are fair game.
having said that, the individual jws on the trolley are not the enemy so i think it's better to keep it as friendly and non-confrontational as possible.. being realistic no jw is going to admit they are wrong because of something we say to them on the street but don't underestimate the long-term effect of doubts.. so what are your ideas for how to approach them?.
personally i like to use the literature on the cart.
Why????? Leave them alone.
You want them to leave you alone, yes?
I don't bother them because I don't want them bothering me.
it is strange to read the last week watchtower that encouraging child/teenagers' baptism.
even jesus was baptised as his 30. jws encouraging marriages at an older age.
but why they are encouraging children to get baptised.
i am planning a trip to new york and trying to develop an itinerary.
t will be my first time.
what do you suggest i see?
