My Opinions on whats going on in WT land - Insider Information
by thedepressedsoul infirst off, i'd like to state that i currently have "privileges" in the congregation and volunteer at bethel on and off throughout the year.
that's as much information as i will currently give about myself.. starting off, i think something big is coming in the form of lawsuits and bad pr.
they seem to be batting down the hatches in preparation for something the last few years and even more so the last few months.

We have driven past the Wallkill property a few times (we pass it when we go to Mohonk). It used to be a hive of activity but we've noticed it's almost dead quiet there lately. -

What death teaches!
by iconoclastic indeath teaches that nothing belongs to us.
no other teachings have been conveyed so clearly, powerfully, and globally.
yet this is the one that is not taken seriously by people in general.

Cappy:
I have no issue with GMO's. But I agree with VI and your POV concerning intellectual property. However what is being overlooked is often farmers who have never been part of Monsanto or ever purchased their seed often find Monsanto strains mixed in with theirs due to cross contamination by various means and when Monsanto discovers the farmer has their strain amongst the yield they have the power to completely destroy the farmer, which they have on more than a few occasions. That is my only issue.

Does Anyone Still Believe in God?
by LaurenM indo any of you ex-jw's still believe in god?
even with the new rebranding/softening of this religion, i still don't see how people can believe in him.
the god of the old testimate is an angry murderer who approved rapes and slavery and killed thousands of men, women and children.

Believing or not believing in a supreme being does not prove or disprove its existence well duh! What matters is it doesn't contribute a thing to anything or anyone for that matter. It doesn't change anything when there is neither proof or the inability to disprove. So what is the point? Even if there was a creator, so what? Where do you go from there? What is your next option? Choose who's concept of a creator is correct? More supposition? Are you going to worship it? Why would you? If it's real it clearly wants nothing to do with this planet. So again, WHAT IS THE POINT? Science on the other hand is solid, it grows, it changes it's as real as your hand on a stove. It contributes, informs, helps and does everything I could possibly ask for in life and tomorrow it will do even more and when I'm long gone it may even have figured out immortality. For me that's all I need to know, the rest is simply "what if" gobbledygook. Science truly is my god. -

How accurate is the Bible?
by WireRider inhow accurate is the bible?
the "compiled" version (council of nicaea) was not established for hundreds, or even thousands, of years after events happened.
stories were handed down generation to generation to generation before being written down.

In my opinion you have no choice but to choose which parts of the bible are applicable to you, if you didn't you would be stoning adulterers and homosexuals, not eating pork or crustaceans, still be treating women like nothing but breeding receptacles with restricted freedom and sacrificing animals in your back yard. Or you would have to listen to Jesus who couldn't make up his mind either - do we forgive unconditionally or only provided he is worshipped unquestioningly? -

About as accurate as a brick thrown at a tea cup a hundred yards away. -

If people, want to believe in gods, ancestral spirits or reincarnation - fine. Just don't force it on others.
why am I an athiest? Simply because no supernatural entity has ever answered a simple question for me. For morality great role models and common sense answered those questions. For everything else science answered those questions and continues to do so. Those who put their noses up to science pick and choose which parts of science suits them to trust. I trust science because it expects nothing more from me than for me to question, learn, study and draw conclusions which I am allowed to change with new evidence - the exact opposite of "belief" or "adherence". There simply is nothing else in life which offers what science does for improving this planet and it certainly is my opinion that the only option for this planet's salvation is science. So why bother with anything else when it comes to matters of our survival or progress? Science does not disappoint - humans do. Yes, you could say science is my god because it does heal, fix, enlighten and it offers the best prospects for a better future - no diety has done for man what science has. EVER.

My Mom Is Dying
by minimus ini just wanted to say that my dear 89 year old mom is terminally ill and will soon pass.
she is on morphine and hanging on.
she has been a devout witness for about 60 years and a wonderful mother.

My condolences. You must have a lot of awesome memories from a close and loving 89 year relationship. Even though my dad, grandfather and father-in-law are gone, their advice, example and strong characters still serve me well almost every day. Great parents give one an example to follow and even in their absence one feels like it's still possible to disappoint them and strive to avoid that. -

i haven't included any things i would consider "apostate" specifics about doctrines, or major scandals.
