The wife and I drive past there whenever we visit Mohonk. It doesn't seem like much of a farm to me but then a lot of it is hidden from the roadside view. I'm also not aware of where the boundaries of their property are so The few cattle I've seen may even belong to a neighboring farm. I would have expected the actual farm land to be more impressive but even the self propelled irrigation system seems inadequate.

If your Bethelite Brother Doesn't Know About It, It Musn't Be True
by HomebytheSea ina few weeks ago my deeply indoctrinated father who is a long time elder was wondering why we hadn't been attending meetings, and why my 8 yr old son wasn't on the theocratic school ( sounds like i almost off the hook with that one...lol).
we live in a different state, but i came to find out that one of the elders in our hall called my father, who he never met, to see why our meeting attendance had been so sporadic (i am in my mid-40's, so that knowledge made my blood boil, to put it mildly!
i tried not to answer, but he kept pressuring me, so i brought up the arc and child abuse cases i had heard of in our area.

Your dad and my mom should get married although even he would probably end up bludgeoning her to death with a head of broccoli out of sheer frustration. Anyway, great reasoning you used with him. Real zombies are impossible to reason with though, unfortunately. -

Ikea and the bible have a lot in common.
1) Both garbage
2) Use both long enough and while the claims of one falls apart the other literally falls apart.
3) Both are of shoddy construction
4) One isn't real furniture one isn't real life
5) Both are more suited for the poor
6) Both try and con you they are synonymous with quality lifestyles
7) I wouldn't be caught dead with either in my home
8) Some people actually think owning both is a bragging point
9) The Salvation Army have a huge surplus of both
10) People argue over the which parts of the bible are missing and added, Ikea often has parts missing or too many parts added.

S*** JW Parents Say
by Dissonant15 inmy mom especially had some go-to phrases that to this day echo in my head and piss me off.
things like, .
"don't get mad at me for enforcing the rules, because jehovah made them, so if you don't like it, you're disrespecting him.

"You are to remain seated when God Save The Queen or Oh Canada is played, do not bow your head or say Amen after the Lord's prayer, and keep your eyes open. Come straight home for lunch and after school. All worldly people are ruled by Satan.
Boy did I hear this repeatedly except it was the South African national anthem. My Mother also wrote a note to the schools I attended explaining why I was not to participate in either of these as well singing hyms at morning assembly. When I stopped being a Witness at 14yrs old the first thing I did was join the military cadets program which was of course against JW policy but compulsory for non religious objectors. I was so proud and happy the first time I put on my brown uniform which I had stayed up all night ironing razor sharp seams into. By the time I finished high school I was a cadet sergeant and vice-captain of the cadet shooting team. Hell yeah!
"Bad associations spoil useful habits."
Also repeated ad nauseum. The last time I heard someone say that I told him to fuck off.
My mom's favorite: "Jehovah knows and cares about everything, even when a sparrow falls."
Well a sparrow must have been more important to him than me begging him to answer my prayers when I was a kid trying to make sense of my sister being disfellowshipped and the rampant racism in the Kingdom Halls - I never got a word in return from the sadistic bastard. I sincerely detest the old cow.

they seem to be batting down the hatches in preparation for something the last few years and even more so the last few months.

We have driven past the Wallkill property a few times (we pass it when we go to Mohonk). It used to be a hive of activity but we've noticed it's almost dead quiet there lately. -

What death teaches!
by iconoclastic indeath teaches that nothing belongs to us.
no other teachings have been conveyed so clearly, powerfully, and globally.
yet this is the one that is not taken seriously by people in general.

Cappy:
I have no issue with GMO's. But I agree with VI and your POV concerning intellectual property. However what is being overlooked is often farmers who have never been part of Monsanto or ever purchased their seed often find Monsanto strains mixed in with theirs due to cross contamination by various means and when Monsanto discovers the farmer has their strain amongst the yield they have the power to completely destroy the farmer, which they have on more than a few occasions. That is my only issue.

Does Anyone Still Believe in God?
by LaurenM indo any of you ex-jw's still believe in god?
even with the new rebranding/softening of this religion, i still don't see how people can believe in him.

Believing or not believing in a supreme being does not prove or disprove its existence well duh! What matters is it doesn't contribute a thing to anything or anyone for that matter. It doesn't change anything when there is neither proof or the inability to disprove. So what is the point? Even if there was a creator, so what? Where do you go from there? What is your next option? Choose who's concept of a creator is correct? More supposition? Are you going to worship it? Why would you? If it's real it clearly wants nothing to do with this planet. So again, WHAT IS THE POINT? Science on the other hand is solid, it grows, it changes it's as real as your hand on a stove. It contributes, informs, helps and does everything I could possibly ask for in life and tomorrow it will do even more and when I'm long gone it may even have figured out immortality. For me that's all I need to know, the rest is simply "what if" gobbledygook. Science truly is my god.
