I haven't been following this thread because it wasn't of interest. However after reading it through out of curiosity, I want to know if anyone else gets the impression that it's almost as if Richie is trying incredibly hard to come off as an intellectual hosting an intellectual TV debate show when the audience in fact notices that he should be hosting a kiddie quiz show?
I almost expect a morning newspaper headline proclaiming "Game show host exposed as fraud!"

yesterday i finally confronted my mom with my research about the wtbts being registered with the un as a ngo for ten years.she didn't get angry at all but she says she doesn't want to doubt the organization, i asked her if she realizes that if this is true what it means and she replied by saying she believes she has found the truth and that satan wants me to turn away from the organization.she also said that apostates make these very clever looking articles to lure us away.i told her that i avoided all apostate websites(which i did) and went straight to the un which confirmed it.i asked her to do her own research on the matter but she refuses to saying she is not going to live her life having doubts about the borg.
i don't think i can wake her up ,especially if she doesn't even want to think that the organization is not "god's earthly organization".. i was thinking that now that she knows about my doubts i can disassociate myself but as i only turned 18 this week and have nowhere to go if she kicks me out the house(my entire family are j-dubs) i don't know what to do to move forward from this point .do any of you have any advice for me ?

Naturally I agree with FMF, he's absolutely correct. Violence in low income areas where education, social amenities and lack of sincere leadership and role models is a serious issue which in my opinion transcends the topic of firearms. It's a problem which politicians and the public at large simply refuse to adress and deal with honestly. Until a concerted effort is made to solve these problems, violence in these areas will persist. Firearm control will help to a degree but will never solve the problem simply because these high crime areas have ready access to illegal firearms from within and without the US.

i have a vague memory of jws having some objection to logos of some kind in the past, which might be a contradiction to the recent addition of the jw.org logo.. please can someone enlighten me on what their stance used to be regarding logos?.

cappytan10 hours agoMany good ideas have been put forth in this thread. Some I agree with. Some I think are overboard.
The fact of the matter remains that in the current political climate, you would be hard pressed to pass some sweeping form of federal legislation.
On the federal level, if any steps are to be taken to solve this issue of crazy people getting guns, there needs to be baby steps. Any legislation that puts out a ton of regulations in one fell swoop is doomed to fail.
Honestly, the low hanging fruit on the subject of this thread is requiring gun owners to secure their arms and penalizing them severely if they do not. I think even most gun nuts would agree on that. And I bet that if you don't include any other regulations in that legislation that the NRA would get behind it. Traditionally, they're pro gun-safety. Currently, they're run by a bunch of nut jobs and it's only getting worse.

I don't know how I missed your post Cappy but I agree 100%. If the country wants to fix all the holes, getting better laws in place is best done slowly rather than sweeping reform. I would say the first order of business would be to adress the influence of the NRA.

I think like me, you fine fellows missed his point and I'm probably responsible for it, since I started that line of accidental retort. Frankly, I feel bad about it. Sometimes I wish my dad or grandfather were still around to slap me upside the head whenever I jump to conclusions or speak out of line.
He was not claiming that the US won the war for the world because of their gun culture. He was suggesting that perhaps US citizens were eager to fight tyranny BECAUSE of their gun culture and he wasn't specifically referring to WW2, I think. I assume he means the gun culture also influenced US anti-communist sentiment and therefore the initial willingness of so many Americans to fight in Korea, Vietnam and the first Gulf War?
But I am sure he was not claiming that American gun culture saved the world.
I don't necessarily agree even with this, I would be interested to read up on the subject as there may be an element of truth to it. But I wanted to set the record straight on my part.
how can a person be saved?
