WT March 15, 2016 - Kids pressured toward baptism again
by Designer Stubble inthe study wt of march 2016 is up on jw.org and is the standard article around this time of year...pressuring young kids to dedicate their lives to the organization again.
this wt will be studied during may, so just in time to pressure them into baptism at the regional conventions this summer.such articles really upset me, as the realization of how many young promising lives will be destroyed.
how many families will be broken up, when the child who got baptized as a minor (ages 6 and up are mentioned in the literature) decides as a young adult that his/her conscience no longer allows him/her to be part of such a destructive cult.

How else are they going to keep membership numbers? They're desperate to keep born-ins because they're the only members they're left with considering the poor rate of successful recruitment from outside the bOrg. Can't run a business with no income now,, can you? -

If you are DF'd are your family shunning you? Then why bother going back and puting up with the stress and bullshit for people who demonstrate the most severe case of conditional love for you? I dont get why people want to be around family who treat them in a way not even strangers would. -

So ... Russia and Nato at war? Should we be worried?
by Simon init seems unbelievable but turkey (a nato member state) shooting down a russian jet fighter on their syrian border seems to be "meh" news and no one is too bothered about it too much.. the world seems a bit upside down right now.
i don't think a lot of countries really know who the hell they are fighting and who is and isn't on their side in it all and really what is going on.. smaller incidents than this have led to major conflicts in the past but hopefully calm heads will prevail.
china shot down a us spy plane years ago and the world survived and forgot about it so things will move on i'm sure.. i'm guessing the price turkey pays for their gas supply from russia will be going up soon though.. man, that republican primary is sucking all the news attention from the room.

Kaik:
Excellent points.
Turkey is playimg a dangerous game. They intend to pursue their own interests in Syria While betting that Russia will back down because of Turkey's NATO membership. Once again Putin's determination to make a play at Russia being a global power again is being underestimated. Russia may not have the claws it did during the Cold War, but it still has enough teeth to demand global respect and Putin knows it. Turkey is being reckless and a dangerous liability to NATO. They have ultimately played right into Putin's hand and given Putin a justifiable (in his view with consent of the Syrian government) foothold on Syrian airspace. I can gurantee you ISIS are very pleased with this development.

Disco Sucks!
by professor indoes anyone remember how the society joined the "disco sucks" movement of the late 70's?
i remember reading in the mags about how disco was created by homos and that it has an "immoral beat" (whatever that means!
) it was also mentioned not to go see "saturday night fever" because someone gets a blowjob in the movie.. in our congregation, we had a special meeting about disco because people would request disco songs at our once-a-month jw skating party at the local skating rink.

I dont remember the anti-disco sentiment, but I do remember the psycho-babble warnings of Watching Saturday Night Fever in the congregation. -

On this forum alone there are women who intellectually and pragmatically blow away most worldly men I know personally - let alone the uneducated male morons of the bOrg! -

JW message becoming more and more relevant
by lsw1961 inmans requirements are limited which can be satisfied with a little and tension-free endeavor..
however man attempts not only to collect but also to grab and amass everything to the excess.
somehow he feels that he can be happy only when he has in abundance whereas others have nothingwhich seems to be the thread that runs throughout the history.

Cofty: a beautiful, well reasoned and presented debate on your part. John wont be back but I'd love to see other Christians tackle your point on John's behalf. -

I am more worried on proxy war escalation. Russia will not start war with NATO, but it will punish Turkey. Russia will not let anyone crap on her, but it will calculate political cost on internal scene. The best way Russia can punish Turkey is to support Kurdish separatism.
Every family has the idiot who gets drunk at weddings and starts a fight. NATO has Turkey.
Unlike the rest of NATO Turkey's agenda is selfish and motivated by ethnic and religious allegiance. Their decision to shoot down a Russian plane was idiotic. Of course Russia should not have been so close to Turkish air space but so what? They flew across a projection of Turkey's border for a total of 17 seconds. They had left Turkey and were back in Syria when they were attacked.c
It should have been the sort of incident where rational, intelligent governments summon the ambassador to a meeting without coffee.
Turkey cannot be trusted any more than Putin can.NATO should make it absolutely clear to Turkey they have no intention of backing them up. It's the only reasonable response to prevent escalation.
Put these three statements together and you have my take on the situation. Whatever may transpire, nuclear war will not be a part of the end result in this instance. -

by Diogenesister inhttp://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=d9bk76nb6bk please watch this link to a really great american video which features a touching clip of a dad trying to treasure & explain things to his son as they are both caught up in the paris attacks.
it starts with an interview with a muslim victim of the attacks and ends with wise words on the effects of war on kids everywhere , including american sanctioned drone strikes in syria.
its about 10 mins long..

Drop all the bombs you want, fire all the muntions you have and kill the fanatics you can but I guarantee you will not win the war, only battles against the countless new threats which will replace those before them. There are fundamentalists waging jihad across 5 continents and in dozens of countries. The issue extends far beyond ISIS or Al-Qaeda. The fact that Al-Quaeda and the Taliban (who incidentally are growing stonger by the day) are still alive and kicking despite years of earnest fforts to erradicate them, proves there is an endless line of willing jihadists willing to step forward into the ranks and wage their holy war regardless. It's not organizations that are the problem, it's the belief in superstition which provides the means for those seeking to manipulate others that is the problem, be it Islam, Christianity or African ancestral worship. Fundamentalism will never go away until such time that those subscribing to these superstitions decide for themselves they want no part of it simply because they accept it as nonsense and nothing more than a means to have their emotions manipulated. You can declare all you like that not all religious people wish to impose their superstitions beliefs on others, but the fact is as long as those beliefs are allowed to exist there will also be those exploiting believers and even in minorities, they can be influenced to affect society in the most severe ways. This is why I and others are so vehemently opposed to superstitious "faith" and come across as being unreasonable, unfeeling and often seen as "bullies". Your freedom to believe in superstitions affects everyone, not just you.
Incidentally, it is not superstition alone which provides the perfect petri dish for manipulation. Any emotion is capable of allowing one to be manipulated - even love. Not allowing our emotions to dictate our behaviour but instead allowing positive emotions to enhance clear thinking is key. If humans are to progress to the next level of psychological evolution, we HAVE to stop letting our emotions preside over our thought process and make an earnest effort to think critically.
Just my two cents.
