Born to Be Conned - The New York Times
by paul from cleveland inborn to be conned - new york times.
when people want to believe what they want to believe, david sullivan, a professional cult infiltrator, told the commonwealth club of california, a public affairs forum, in july 2010, they are very hard to dissuade.
and the reason it happens (and often happens to the most intelligent people) is that human nature is wired toward creating meaning out of meaninglessness..

Do most ex JW's go politically left?
by Lightgrowsbrighter ini've found it interesting that- imho- most of the politically vocal ex-jw's at this website seem to lean left.
i'm personally pretty centered- right on some issues, left on others, but overall have a pretty cynical view of all political/religious leaders.
i find it somewhat ironic that people who leave such a dogmatic group like the witnesses become so politically dogmatic.

I'm with whoever doesn't impinge on the freedom and rights of others and also displays the greater common sense. And if I get the slightest whiff of theology mixed in with political rhetoric I will automatically have a deep disdain for that political party. -

Muslims vs. JWs as friends
by Driving Force inthis is not meant to be a controversial discussion, but just mentioning what has happened to my daughter.. i personally started my fade early this year 2015, it has resulted in my losing all my so called jw friends and the brake-up of my marriage.
when i split up with my wife, she asked our daughter who she would like to live with, my daughter decided to live with me, and also abandoned the cult.. recently my daughter told me that she is very disappointed with the congregation of jehovah's witnesses because she thought she had friends there, but now she has realized that it was all conditional, not a single one of them has even remotely tried to keep contact with my daughter, she is 15, not baptized and never a publisher.. now yesterday she met up with a jehovah's witness friend who is in another congregation.
this friend is also 15, baptized since she was 14, a very dominant elder father, and has virtually no association outside jw circles, and also internet access is banned at home.

Smiddy:
If you aren't baptized and don't attend meetings, you're considered worldly and therefore bad association - so yes hardcore zombies will treat you like a disease.
Before I decided to not be a Dub anymore there was a saying they were fond of that used to drive me nuts, "Bad association spoil useful habits". WTF is a useful habit and how does it spoil??

Today's watchtower: obey us, no matter what
by Tornintwo intoday's watchtower:.
obey us, obey us even when it seems strange, obeying our man made hierarchy equates to obeying god, sacrifice your own interests, work for us, don't be independent, put your own interests aside, obey some more, preach for us, build for us, enjoy it, obey some more, forgive when we are jerks to you and mistreat you, accept your changed assignment even if it seems cruel and doesn't make sense, don't complain if we move you (eg.
) because you might have to move in the new world, remember you are being trained to obey, remember to put your own interests aside, that's the way we are designed to live - it will only make you happy!

Under the Radar & Eby:
My apologies for having taken so long to get back to you with Hitler's quote, "Stop thinking and follow me". For some reason it was quite difficult to track down (I'm not exactly a Google guru). Just know that I gave you my word to find it and I take that very seriously.
Here are a few places where the quote can be found:
https://prezi.com/m/kstbmsg_br9z/world-war-ii/
This link is some kind of flash player you will have to page through, but you will find the quote here. Surprisingly you will also discover that Mussolini and the Jap leaders used the same or similar phrases.

It would appear that I learned of this quote from the war documentary/US propaganda movie "Why We Fight" by Frank Capra. There is footage of Adolf Hitler giving one of his speaches in which he makes this demand. I recommend watching the film.

If You Were God How Would You Prove You Existed
by Pig ini ask this because obviously everyone has different criteria, hence why we have muslims who think quran is the more than enough proof, christians who think the bible is perfect proof and atheists who believe that nothing yet has been proof enough of gods existence.. living with humans we all must have a good idea of human nature (god should certainly know) so what would you provide as proof if you were god to convince the masses of your existence?.
if you were a christian would your proof surpass that contained in the bible, would you provide less proof?.
if you are atheist would you provide a mathematical equation or a series of supernatural events that fulfill prophecies every 100 years?.

Even Now, You Haunt Me...
by Garrett ineven after leaving the organization, it still lurks in the background like a shadow.. as some of you know, i met a wonderful girl a while ago (which i'm going to need your help with).
she is a catholic and i am open and very respectful of her beliefs.
however, i know there will be a time where i will have to tell her that i once was a witness... and to be honest, i'm quite scared of that.. i don't want things to be ruined between us because of a disgusting cult that i was in.

I've dated women from many religions as well as atheists. When the topic came up it never bothered a single one of them that I was an ex Dub. As VI says, if it's in your past, who gives a shit except other JWs who have something in common? My wife comes from a Catholic family with nuns and priests. What matters is what sort of person you are now. Besides, it's not like you're an ex convict. IMO you're reading way too much into this. -

Are single sisters happier?
by Esmeralda001 inthis question is for the ladies out there, but if you are a man and you'd like to share your thoughts on the following topic you are welcomed to do so.
given the wt society's view on women, did any of you ladies gave up on the idea of getting married "in the truth".
in such case, did you sometimes feel that you were missing out?

When my brother joined the Roodekrans Bethel he ended up marrying a pioneer he barely knew beyond seeing here at a few meetings and written correspondence. Two years later he returned home early (he was no longer at Bethel by this time) from work to find her in bed with another sister she was pioneer partners with. It devastated him and to add insult to injury, she was the one who divorced HIM while he tried to reconcile the relationship.
I had a good laugh at that. Immature I know, but I was 15 and hated his goody JW guts. At 46 I still have a good chuckle ... Yes I'm still immature and hate his zombie guts.

So this boy has a vision to be an Abattoir worker. How many other trades do they teach in a mosque
The boy is being taught what will become part of his duties as a man which includes slaughtering animals by the laws of "halal". It has nothing to do with a career in an abattoir. He may have to slaughter livestock for his family someday and certainly in third world countries he most definitely will and regularly - it's a skill all men in some religions and cultures are expected to learn.
