Gut Feelings - The Second Brain
by Xanthippe ini came across a link on the bbc site this morning to an article in scientific american on gut health claiming that one reason we need to keep our guts healthy with probiotics, a good diet and reducing antibiotics is because there are neurons in our gut that are part of the process to create dopamine and serotonin for the brain.
yes happy hormones and neurotransmitters!
amazing article.. 'the enteric nervous system is often referred to as our body’s second brain.

Problem with the Like and Dislike Buttons
by Listener inthere is a problem with the like and dislike buttons.
depending on what source you are using it is easy to vote more than once on the like or dislike.. i noticed this initially on my tablet touchscreen.
if i tap quickly & continuously click on the like/dislike button, it will register as multiple votes, the same happens on my laptop when i do the same thing with my mouse but this method doesn't register as many votes.it is only a matter of time for others to pick up on this and there may be some who are already aware of this.

I have noticed this too, but if you revisit the thread or reload it you should notice that it has in fact only registered a single vote. At least this is what I have noticed. Incidentally I don't down vote anymore unless by accident while intending to hit "like". I simply decided I'd rather just be positive and like rather than negative and dislike. -

If death is a natural occurrence in the human species, why are we born with the innate feeling to continue living indefinitely?
by Tenacious inthere are some people that do in fact want to die.
these people include the mentally unstable, emotionally imbalanced, and those suffering from ailments or diseases, just to name a few.. i've never met however, anyone, or heard of anyone, who is of sound mind, who just awoke one day and thought it would be an excellent day to die......naturally.. your thoughts?.

All animals are afraid of death or tries to preserve themselves. Our evolved brains have an emotional awareness of death and the intellect to discuss it. Perhaps it's just that we think of ourselves as superior creatures and don't deserve death. Get past the emotion and realize you aren't special and you'll be ok with whatever time you have. -

Trump: the Mary Decker of Politics
by Simon ini have never heard a politician whine like a little girl so much and claim everything to be "so unfair".. now he's trying to claim that a reporter may have been "coming at him with a bomb" (to justify his campaign manager attacking her) just because she had a pen, yes - a reporter had a pen.
and of course he's going to sue - anytime he's criticized or loses a primary he threatens a lawsuit over it.. "she had a pen in her hand, it could of been a bomb or just a pen - which can be dangerous".
yes mr trump, we know a female reporter writing about you if threatening.. in last nights town hall he claims *not* to have suggested suing her and seems to genuinely believe that saying something in a tweet isn't actually saying it.. on more serious and worrying subjects, he wants the us to pull out of nato and for every country in asia and the middle east to get nukes "because it's so unfair".. for someone who plays the tough guy all the time he comes across as incredibly insecure, and whines about how everything is unfair if anyone criticizes him but backs down with denials if pressed on something he has said (or claims it's "unfair" that he's been challenged).. if you don't know who mary decker is (maybe you're too young) she too represented the us and was an embarrassment on the world stage.

Vidiot :
John Wayne had a serious superiority complex because he played heroes in "Sands of Iwo Jima" and "The Longest Day" but never actually served a day in the military himself. Apparently he had a hard time looking real vets in the eye.

Wow Simon you brought back some memories. Unfortunately Mary Decker's antics worked and Zola was penalized ... the same way Trump's antics work. -

CNN: The 80's
by Simon ini've really enjoyed the cnn series on the 60's and 70's - they give you more of the "feel" of how things progressed in each decade than just the raw facts while still providing interesting and entertaining views of history.
each episode typically focuses on development of one aspect such as tv, music or politics and of course includes important world events.. starting on thursday is the next series, this time covering the 80's.
now it's catching up with things i can really remember well directly.. the trailer shows the huge tv event of the decade if not all time - who shot jr. yes kids, who shot mr burns was just a copy of it i'm afraid.. it was broadcast in the uk on tuesday evening.

In order for this to work one would first need a brain, so I'm out.
