it's for home-schooled kids and will be at the la quinta.
so there aren't going to be many people there.

journey-on: You have very good suggestions! Thanks.
finding my way: It's comforting to hear from others who have suffered similar pains.
It's sick how they don't see how much pain they cause us by saying these sorts of things and they aren't even able to care because they are so brainwashed.
I was thinking about this yesterday. She doesn't want me there because it would make her cry and upset her. (Which, of course, it IS her day.) However, there is no thought given to how I'll feel being told not to come.
Scully: Yes, that's how she actually feels. Several years ago her school choir sang at the city park. My husband and I were in the back. We didn't even try to talk to her. She said later that she started crying when she saw me there. She's not being coached to say she'd cry and be upset if I went to her graduation. She does know that I would be there because one, she was told I would be going unless she said not to; and two, I went to my other sisters graduation 4 years ago. So there's no coaching going on. At least, not beyond the normal brainwashing, which is heartbreaking enough.

Yes, oopma, we asked her. She didn't say yes or no, but did say it would upset her if I was there and she would cry.

Iconoclast: I won't be there, but my dad is taping it. So I'll be able to see it, now.
J. Hofer: I'm glad you were able to reconnect, even though it took a long time. I think I can imagine how it might have felt. I think about having a relationship with my sisters. I just hope that someday they'll find a reason to leave, like I did. It's hard to want them to start thinking, but have no way of talking with them in order to plant little seeds.
Everybody: Thanks for your thoughts and sympathies. It helps a lot.

Why would your sister be upset if she saw you??
I DA'd 7 yrs ago and so she, my other sister and my mom have NO contact with me. The last time I saw her was 4 yrs ago at my other sister's graduation at an actual high school. She'd be upset because she misses me and wants me to come back.
chickpea:
maybe on another occasion you can have a private recognition of her accomplishments
I'll be sending her a graduation gift, but apparently a public room at the La Quinta is even too private. Her graduation was the only thing I could have possibly shared with her since it's a public event.

not to go to my sister's high school graduation. Why? It's for home-schooled kids and will be at the La Quinta. So there aren't going to be many people there. If she saw me she would cry. She got the highest grades, so she has to give a speech. It would upset her if she saw me.
I completely understand. That's why my husband suggested we ask first. We don't want to upset her and ruin her important day.
It still hurts, though.

thetrueone, Thanks for pointing out the family at the bottom. I scrolled back up to look at the pic and noticed that they are THE ONLY PEOPLE "in paradise"! Maybe the scarcity of other families is what gives the "qualify" statement such an odd feeling?

serenitynow!, That caught my attention, too. I thought it was a strange way to put it, but can't quite put my finger on exactly why.
It almost exudes a "holier than thou" feeling. God's planning a paradise for an elitist group. It's like having to join a fraternity.
Of course, none of these thoughts are anything new for the WTBS. It's just the way they word it makes it sound odd.

how many people have been reinstated solely to have a relationship with your family?

My dad got reinstated for my younger sisters. He and my mom are divorced. He saw my sisters while they were growing up thanks to court ordered visitations. However, when the older of the 2 sisters turned 18 (she was also baptised by then) and no longer required by law to see my dad, she stopped going. My dad was afraid of the same thing happening with the younger sister so he worked on getting back in so he could help them. He had never stopped believing the Witnesses had the "truth", but was never very strong, either. I think he only goes to the meetings. I can't imagine him going out in service. Especially since he rarely, if ever, went out when I was growing up.
