New NWT - what's the REAL reason?
by wallsofjericho inone thing i have learned over the years is there is a clear, distinct purpose to everything the wts does.
everything is done to accomplish a defined purpose.. did they really print millions of new bibles just to be more accurate?
after decades of toughting how much better the nwt was than any other bible?.

Maybe they really are trying to modernise their doctrine? Just a thought. Perhaps as a group it was inevitable they would one day.

81 years after his enthronement (1995) Jesus chose to reveal to his Faithfull and Discreet Slave that they should interperate the "generation" prophesy in Matthew 24 as a vague description of general destruction falling on a wicked people, rather than a motivational indicator that this followers must not invest in decent careers and education! This revelation was greatfully recieaved by all his faithfull!!

Does Christianity Need The Bible
by Mat inchristianity began it's formation without the bible.
the bible, as we know it, is a collection of what were very old texts when they were assembled by christian leaders in the late second and third centuries because they were deemed to be inspired by god.. whether they really were inspired by god or not is now open to debate, but should they prove to not be, it should not undermine christianity as an establishment.. discuss......

"During the Protestant Reformation , certain reformers proposed different canonical lists to those currently in use. Though not without debate, see Antilegomena , the list of New Testament books would come to remain the same; however, the Old Testament texts present in the Septuagint but not included in the Jewish canon fell out of favor. In time they would come to be removed from most Protestant canons. Hence, in a Catholic context, these texts are referred to as deuterocanonical books, whereas in a Protestant context they are referred to as the Apocrypha , which means "hidden", the label applied to all texts excluded from the biblical canon but which were in the Septuagint. It should also be noted that Catholics and Protestants both describe certain other books, such as the Acts of Peter , as apocryphal ."

Seeing as the list of what books are canon or not was seemingly unsettled in to as late as the Reformation, I think it plausable in the light of modern scholarship, that Christianity may continue as a pursuit of spiritual truth, which the Bible seemed to provide, but now arguably does not.

Why did God test Abraham?
by jws inwhen jws come around with their articles asking "is god cruel?
", i often point them to genesis 22:2:.
2 then god said, take your son, your only son, whom you loveisaacand go to the region of moriah.

You know many scholars recccon the original account of this story ended with Abraham actually going through with it! The bits where God intervines are written in a different style and seem to be added by later editors.

What is the main "idea" of the bible?
by KateWild inas jws we were often told what the theme of the bible is, we were taught that it was the promised seed.. i was recently asked the question.... what is the main "idea" of the bible?.
for me the whole purpose of the bible is about control.
it features a god that punishes and rewards.

1- God exsists. His existence is taken for granted but his nature can vary depending on the passage- vengeful or loving? Generous or exacting? Etc.
2- Sin. Mankind is so beneath God because of this sin. What we are supposed to do about it varies depending of the pasage you read. Sacrifice animals for it? Stop doing it? Thank God for having his son die so we can be forgiven for it? Repent from it?
What exactly sin is can vary too. Something inherent that we can't avoid? Something we sometimes callously chose to do? Something we don't even know we do but God doesn't like anyway?
That is mostly it! The resulting message from the above presuppositions are things like- Love God because he is greater than you/holds your life in his hands/can help you/etc.

Christianity began it's formation without the “Bible”. The bible, as we know it, is a collection of what were very old texts when they were assembled by Christian leaders in the late second and third centuries because they were deemed to be inspired by God.
Whether they really were inspired by God or not is now open to debate, but should they prove to not be, it should not undermine Christianity as an establishment.
