Question for ex-Bethelites or others in the know: GB members & Bible studies
by sir82 inat a recent circuit event, one of the carefully scripted interviews was with a young lady who had recently moved from nyc.
she has been baptized as a jw for about one year.. she made a point, and the interviewer re-emphasized, that her bible study had been conducted by geoffrey jackson (gb member) and later by mark noumair (gilead instructor).. it seems the primary reason for the interview was name-dropping, with perhaps the idea that even "prominent bethelites" conduct bible studies "just like we are supposed to".
the young lady rambled on about being "grateful for their patience" or some such.

Hello, I am New Here

Hello Booshooy, if you are in to different translations you might like this web site:
You can compair a large number of translations. Alas, it does nto have the NWT ;-D Still, if you are considering alternative views on the bible try reading a good book on the skeptical outlook. A book I reccomend is the Jessu Mysteries-
You don't have to agree with it, but at least understand why other people don't belieave. It's not all because they all want to sin. It helped me anyway. All the best.

New Here, Hello Guys - New website idea
by garbonzo inhello, i'm a 'active' 17 yr. old jw, saw this site before when i was still searching for answers, i gotta say, it's not a good site to convert jws, because most of the people on here seem to hate the "borg" (as you call it on here?
i rather had to go on a scientific forum to get answers to my questions about jw (or rather the bible in general) with a very open mind, and actually thinking to convert some of them if i was lucky.
rather, i saw that everything the society gave us was easily refutable, or on shaky grounds.

Hi Garbonzo, you are welcome, of course. The fact that most of us are shunned by the JW's has made some bitter, but I'm sure you can work out for yourself who are the arseholes.
I think your website idea is a very good one. Before I left I started to notice how most of the information is just repeating the same old rubbish we've been told for years, and really none of it is really all that practical in real life.
The members would have to be anonymous because if "the elders" found out about it they would not like it. What would happen to members if they left the JW's? Besides, reading and contributing could prove to be just as much effort as studying it anyway, etc, so yea, all kinds of considerations I suppose.
In the meantime here is an idea for you. Just to make it look like I studied the Watchtower (when I started having doubts), I would highlight anything in the Watchtower paragraphs. I didn't even read what I was highlighting. It looked impressive, and no one ever did look all that closely to see my highlights were random. Would they know even if they did?
For a bit more credability (if needed) choose 2 scriptures from the article (randomly of course) and just read up on them two. People in the Hall will think your are very clever. You'll be promoted to MS in no time and your parents will be very impressed.

The Rapture Is Taught In the Bible
by snowbird in1 thessalonians 4:15 -17 and then this: we can tell you with complete confidencewe have the master's word on itthat when the master comes again to get us, those of us who are still alive will not get a jump on the dead and leave them behind.
in actual fact, they'll be ahead of us.
the master himself will give the command.

I'm still waiting for Tyre and Damascus to be desolated.....
And the Nile River has yet to dry up!
No. Since leaving the JW's I decided that the fault lay deeper than just the organisation, it lies with the bible itself. I just feel sorry for all those poor people who had faith in yesterday's prediction. I hope they find true happiness in atheism one day.

I dont like using "their" name for God

but i'll avoid it almost always..... if i'm talking with you,.

Let me ask you all something. Are you happy to let the Watchtower Org. hijack the word "Jehovah" for themselfs so that every time someone reads an old bible or hears the word refered to in any liturature or media they will think of Jehovah's Witnesses? This will include liturgical lituriture dating back to the 10th century. Do you want the word "Jehovah" to be a word that represents them?
Or
Wouldn't it be better if the word did not remind people of them because they are farmiliar with it in other contexts and know it is the same as Yahweh? Wouldn't it be better if it didn't have this aura about it that makes people afraid of saying it? It is just a word. Honestly! Anyone would think we were talking about Voldmort!
And what say you PScrotum? Are you ahpy to let this word be the exclusive property of the JW's?
