This author really needs to see the secret elder's video! It goes against almost everything the author of the article says!
From the same article: (!)
Crisis isn't the time for proselytization. Instead of focusing on the text of your preferred religious book, focus on the person and their needs in that moment. Simply listening to what the person in crisis is going through is a great start. Acknowledging their emotional pain as legitimate is tremendously important as is searching for clues within the person's speech to help them find reasons they might want to live. And finally, it's imperative that you refer that person in crisis to seek professional help.

Active JW's, can you defend "THE TRUTH?"
by DATA-DOG inas of yet, no member of the jehovah's witness faith can defend their unique beliefs.
when the dust settles, it all comes down to blind faith in men's ever-changing ideas.
this "unique belief" was not a "true teaching of the bible.

They are like a bait to draw people in to studying the Bible studying more Watchtower publications and coming to an accurate knowledge of God learning the 'current understanding' (which has often turned out to be inaccurate) of the few men who run the Watchtower Organization.
Fixed.

D.O.T said:
It was our current understanding of the truth. Nobody has a complete understanding of truth, you cannot expect that of imperfect men.
Both you and the WT say that no one has a complete understanding of ‘the truth’, ALL are imperfect men, and yet, the WT says, day in and day out for decades upon decades, generations upon generations, that they, and they alone, DO have ‘the Truth.’ These are two opposing ideas that can’t be held at the same time without using ‘doublethink.’
Further, the WT demands that all JWs believe The Truth “our current understanding of the truth" and disfellowship anyone who does research and says they don’t agree with their ‘current understanding of the truth.’
They rip people from their families for disagreeing with the ‘current understanding’ of a group of men.
It is only 'current understanding' of a few men, yet they CALL it ‘the truth’, ACT like it is ‘the truth,’ disfellowship people for not believing ‘the truth’, let people DIE for ‘the truth’…and then when they are wrong say it wasn’t the truth at all, just ‘current understanding’
Anything that is NOT the TRUTH because it is only men's understanding is not the truth!
Fact: Jehovah's Witness are NOT in 'the truth' and do not teach the truth, because, as they and you say, no one has complete understanding of truth and all are imperfect men. Instead, Jehovah's Witnesses are in 'the current understanding of a group of men.'
Calling it 'the truth' is a lie.

First segment is what not to do second is what they are to do
?? I keep reading posts saying that the first segment is 'what not to do.' Where are we getting this idea? I just don't see it...
The two segments don't show the same situation being handled in two different ways. One is handling the emotional crisis at the hall where the woman tells the elder she feels suicidal.
Then, because she told the elder at the hall that she feels suicidal, two elders come to speak with her at her home (second clip).
I don't see any indication that the first video is 'the wrong way' and the second is 'the right way.'

Florida man shoots teen
by designs inmichael dunn pulled into a convenience store parking lot next to a suv full of teenagers who were playing loud music.
he asked the teens to turn down the music, it is uncertain what words were exchanged at that point.
michael dunn then shot 4 times into the driver's side of the suv.

Dunn was not found guilty of murder in the case of Jordan Davis, and is not doing one minute of time in jail for that kid's death. It was a hung jury on that killing because 2 on the jury felt it might have been self defense based on the fact that he might have thought his life was in danger.
Dunn is going to jail for attempting to kill the three other kids who survived.
If he had killed ALL of the teens, he would be a free man today.
Re: 'Stand Your Ground'...
Florida law says someone does not have an obligation to retreat if he or she “reasonably” believes his or her life is at stake, even if there is no actual threat. (The “Stand Your Ground” law was not specifically invoked at either trial, but the Florida self-defense statute, complete with that language, was read to the jury.)
Above quote from a very good article that clearly explains the problems with the language of the law and Florida's self-defense especially when it intersects with today's racism... Everything hangs on what the shooter thinks is 'reasonable'. A person who thinks African American kids are dangerous 'thugs' thinks it is 'reasonable' to shoot them, so they are not convicted of murder, even if the African American kid is unarmed and the shooter's life was not in danger.
The article is a very easy read and makes the point well, I think...
ETA Oops I got a blog mixed up with my article. Still the blog makes the point...
Below is the good the good article:

fear of the "end of white america" LOL!
Calling the kids in the car who were shot at "Thugs" ...
"Maybe these young thugs will show a little respect understanding that their tug boat mouth and row boat A$$ might get them in a situation that they don't want to be in."
The Jordan Davis case and the reactions to this case will make it impossible for people to remain in denial about the actual level of racism in the United States. At least I hope it makes impossible for people to stay in denial...
We can only change it if we can see it.

Great post, rory.
This comment is so very, very true...
All this power in the hands of these men – and yet no power at all because they are bound by the rules in their handbook.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not shun a person because that person has sinned.
JWs will continue speaking to people who they know are sinning, just as long as that person is NOT Disfellowshipped by the elders.
Jehovah’s Witnesses DO shun a person because the elders tell them to (the elders say the person is ‘disfellowshipped.')
'Disfellowshipped' means the person has been found by the elders, in a closed door meeting, to be guilty of not being repentant for a sin.
The congregation is not supposed to know what the sin is that they were disfellowshipped for.
The congregation does not know if the person SAID they were repentant but the elders didn’t believe them.
The congregation only knows that the elders say that this person must be shunned.
The congregation MUST completely shun this person until such a time as the elders tell them that they may speak with the person again.
This process is not found anywhere in the Bible.
DF people are NOT reinstated as soon as they repent.
When a person is DF'ed, they must remain that way (completely shunned) for some period of time, usually 6 months to a year. Often times longer!
And if the person is being shunned because they just don't want to be a member of the org anymore, they will be completely shunned by all friends and their own family forever!
This is NOT in the Bible. This is not LOVING. This is abusive extreme punishment that cuts people off from their own families and all of their friends and support and leaves them completely alone.
