Ooooh thanks Fernando... I have looked at that scripture so much lately, and i didnt even realise that it smashes the whole 144000 / Great Crowd thingy to bits! :)

Is the New Testament only for the 144,000 then?
by TimothyT inif its right what the watchtower say and the new testament is only for the 144,000, then where the hell does everyone else fit in then?.
why do the other witnesses even bother?.
surely jesus sacrifice and the new testament are written for all professing to have faith in him?.

Overlapping generation segment on the new Circuit Assembly program
by traveb inso there i was at the circuit assembly sunday morning with my eyes glazed over as usual when all of a sudden, bam!
a demo with two brothers talking about the new overlapping generation teaching.
the reason it took me by surprise was because it occured during the second talk of the sunday morning symposium, "sanctify god's name by your speech".

They monitor this forum???
HEY GOVERNING BODY! MESSAGE FOR YOU!
Why dont you start teaching the whole truth from the bible instead of half truths which you cherry pick and missapply to cover up your failed prophecies and rather stupid doctrines!!!

Is higher education about worldly riches?
by under_believer inhaven't posted on here in years, but this topic really gets my goat and i just had the "priviledge" of going to a special assembly day where the bethel speaker, john williams, strongly held forth against higher education.
in particular, he stressed how higher education is all about greed and getting rich, and how knowledge puffs up, and that people who go to college are arrogant and selfish.. this is kind of a bad thing because this guy is a really strong, accomplished speaker.
several times i found myself captivated by his delivery in spite of myself.. in response to the idea that somehow education is about getting rich, i would like everyone to take a look at these numbers from the us department of labor: http://www.bls.gov/emp/ep_chart_001.htm.

Hello... i know exactly what you mean.
The JWs can sometimes have very closed mind's on such matters. They seem to like to put people in absolute boxes. If youre not one thing, then you MUST be the other. (Not that im saying they are all like that.)
You have mentioned a classic example. "Going to university means you seek riches!" No, i dont care about money, i just want a good job when i grow up.
Here's another from Sunday's Watchtower: "Suppose, for example, that the only son of an exemplary Christian couple leaves the truth. Preferring “the temporary enjoyment of sin” to a personal relationship with Jehovah". Now, im disfellowshipped but because i am, it doesnt mean that i am enjoying sin or that i have replaced Jehovah. Far from it actualy.
Another: All gay JW's who leave will get AIDS and die. Iv heard that one several times.
When i was a JW i heard lots of sweeping statements regarding such things. I think they are said just to keep everyone in check and towing the line.

The Organisation - Did they stumble you?
by TimothyT inbut whoever stumbles one of these little ones who put faith in me, it is more beneficial for him to have hung around his neck a millstone such as is turned by an ass and to be sunk in the wide, open sea.
(matthew 18:6).
how many of you were like humble little children in the organisation, happily going along with things but then realising something was amiss?

How many of you were like humble little children in the organisation, happily going along with things but then realising something was amiss? Maybe you did (or even didn’t do) something wrong and were disfellowshipped despite your humility. Maybe you asked too many honest hearted questions and were branded an apostate. In any case, what does this scripture say about those who stumble such honest hearted ones? Would it not be better for them to be cast into the sea with a millstone hung around their necks?
It occurred to me before, that many who have been disfellowshipped from the organisation discontinue any personal study of the bible and a relationship with God. They feel they are not worthy anymore as the organisation tells them they can’t and they are wasting their time if they even try.
Sounds to me like they are stumbling others…

Can some one please explain to me what that whole 144,000 thing was about?
by TimothyT ini suppose its a little late to ask this and i never got it even as a jw, but:.
can someone please explain what the whole 144,000 thing is about?
has god only saved a certain group of people?

Broken Promises and Bungi Bill - Thanks for your comments, but i wouldnt be so quick to label all jw kids as not understanding the 144000 thingy, or that all of this goes right over their heads.
I am a very odd exception and therefore i am not a good specimen. I think the reason why is because when theyd talk about such things, id switch straight off. Generaly i did this from a young age when they stopped talking about Jesus and focused incessantly on stuff which to me did not appear scriptural. They picked bits out from the bible and pulled them together to make something new. I have never agreed with that, so i didnt listen.
The Great Crowd - The ones who will live on earth. I have it on good authority that they dont need to read the bible as its not for them but they listen to the 144000 who tell them what it says. I dont believe that. I can read it and apply it how i want too.

2011 Global Survey of Jehovah's Witnesses
by cedars inif you are visiting this site for the first time, or for the first time in a long while, i would appreciate if you could click on the following link and participate in the 2011 global survey of jehovah's witnesses.
both active jehovah's witnesses and former jehovah's witnesses around the world are invited to participate anonymously, and the results will be forwarded to the governing body and world's media.. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/t7zm5zc.
this thread will be updated with the results of the survey (for the time being at least) should you be interested.. in its first 3 days, the survey collected close to 400 responses.

Cedars - I respect you more than almost anyone on this site! Personaly, i thought it was a fabulous idea! Even if you got 1 JW who didnt agree with the soceities teachings, you may have just sealed the doubt in their mind through the survey and spurred them onto to freedom.
I applaud you!
