  Question for Believers - Why did god "create" poison ivy, poison toad stools, and marijuana?

  if he created them, then he would have had to use divine intervention to protect people from eating them or burning them.

  even after being told not to and passing that knlowedge on, small children could inadvertently get into poison berries or mushrooms.

  what about bacteria that causes extreme stomach problems like giardia?

  DFing and shunning causes 22-yr old to murder friend

  so i was randomly watching a show on investigation discovery today - the show was called killer next door, and the episode was called murder without motive.. the show is a french-canadian program that has been translated into english, and this particular episode had to do with a homicide that took place in ste-croix-de-lotbiniere, near quebec city, in november 1999 of a young man named victor lemay.. the confessed murderer was his friend, andre roy, then aged 22.. in the year or so that preceded the murder, andre roy had been disfellowshipped from the jws and had, as a result, been kicked out of his parents' home.

  he had no social support outside of the jws and had to start making new friends.

  the psychologists on the program felt very strongly that the shunning he experienced by the jws in general, and his family in particular, contributed to increasing rage, and that his friend, victor, became a convenient outlet for his rage.

  and please don't tell me you believe in evolution, because even the experts are finding major flaws in that theory.

  I do think that some are overlooking another answer/response which simply says:

  "Could there be a middle ground?"

  Are belief in the Bible and science/evolution mutually exclusive? Why can't a person say that he wants to live his life based on the values and tenets of the Christian Bible, the words of Jesus, etc. and leave open to discovery and discussion how much is myth, legend, fact, and fiction?

  Jesus is really the Son of God, and I feel his words are amazing and his teachings are wise.

  BUT ALSO COULDN'T WE SAY:

  Even if Jesus was only a flesh and blood human, I feel his words are amazing and his teachings are wise.

  Can't that apply to the flood, evolution, devils and demons, a higher power, etc. etc. etc.? Why have black and white, two-dimensional thinking on this? I prefer to acknowledge that I don't know all the answers and am not sure on all these things, rather than be dogmatic EITHER WAY.

  @Londo - We definitely need more media attention. Press releases, flyers, videos, etc all sent to the press. These puff pieces need to end.

  did they simply count years differently back then?

  what accounted for the long life spans in bible times?

  I feel that a global flood is impossible, and had to be either local or allegorical. If that is indeed the case, then that water canopy theory goes out the window.

  Perhaps they counted by months instead of years? That was a thread that was just floating around recently I believe...

  i've been watching a very interesting documentary regarding the state of planet earth.. in a nutshell, (scientifically/physically/factualy) earth is experiencing 'pressure' that points to one inevitable result, to correct itself (or more specifically, to correct the effects of the present human cause, in ex- pollution, global warming, resource depletion etc.)..

  the last time earth 'corrected' itself, there was mass extinction.

  for proof, check out the dinosaur fossil record (unless they are a hoax.).

  When I was kid in the late 70s they ran filmstrips about the population explosion and how overpopulation was imminent.

  WT and a thousand other nutty Christian groups holler about the end being anytime also.

  I am very much into the environment and have taken steps in many positive ways such as recycling, using a reusable water bottle, driving an economy car, etc. So should I worry about it anymore? Will I?

  Nope...

  Is the earth gonna implode bc a Nova show says it might?

  Monsieur you are saying " it has been scientifically proven that Earth is nearing a critical condition that cannot be sustained" but no evidence, studies, names of scientists, etc is offered.

  I am an optimistic person by nature and unless you can be more spcific then your suppositions on the earth's imminent doom are just that...and remind me of the way the WT says the earth is going down soon too.
