@Breakfastofchampions - Yes I can totally relate. My first one too that I was wise to the tricks and the manipulation. It struck me as very babyish at certain points, just doling out milk, repeated over and over again.
There was a few good parts, like the syposium on the qualities of Jesus, but those were the exceptions. It is different viewing it with a critical eye instead of just swallowing everything as "the best convention ever!"
i hope this thread generates some discussion as well as some amusement.
i want to talk about "banned books".
back in the middle ages, the roman catholic church issued its index librorum prohibitorum, the list of prohibited books.
Quendi- You are my new H E R O !!! Thank you for starting this thread, what a great notion.I love the LOTR books I read them the first time in HS and adore the movies. Where I am from though, a number of the JWs talked against the movies and only the "weaker ones" were OK with going to the movies. I have them all on disc of course lol.
When I mentioned to my (asleep and full in JW) wife that there are books banned by the WT she said "There aren't any banned books!" That was priceless and just my eye-roll alone was enough and she changed the subject...
And BTW, when I was in Bethel there was a guy that had a few books on his meager shelf (space being at a premium) including the LOTR series. His housekeeper turned him in and he was given a stern talking to by the home overseer, a man much to be feared, and he had to throw those books out of the shire or get himself gone.
the cancer finally got to her and now my sisters and i are left without our mother.
we take comfort only in knowing that she is no longer in pain.
how do people move on from such a massive loss?.
I freaking HATE cancer. I have lost two special people from it too. Hang in there Ms. Lola a lot of prayers and kind thoughts are floating your way.

i have just had a new mobile phone for my birthday (having upgraded from a very old one) and was amazed to find that there is actually a "ministry" app on it for jehovahs witnesses.. i am probably a bit behind the times mentioning this but i hadn't seen any threads on it since i have been on the site and as i say am new to this type of phone with "apps".. my husband could hardly believe it when i showed him.. .

@littleimp-There's quite a few apps for JWs on iPhone. They used to have a daily text one but they had to take it down bc of the Org lawyers. Also ditto for the NWT app. There is a pretty good one for reporting FS time but it was a waste for me since I made up all my numbers anyway :-)
@whatwasithinking- LMAO good app! But Tower Madness is better by far, check it out on iphone hehe.

It's easy to say which thing a person should do when you are on the other side of the fence or have already crossed it, voluntarily or involuntarily lol.
The *hope* that things will change is tantalizing but just like the greek story of Tantalus, always just out of reach...

i discovered today that the september magazines and the nwt are available as epub files on the jw.org website.
that's pretty handy for those of you with ipads that have the interest in reading them (especially those still "in").
i'm guessing this works with e-readers and other tablets.. what is particularly noteworthy is that when opened in ibooks, the articles have links to all the scriptures, footnotes, etc, and links back to the paragraph.
Very cool development. They have been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. But why would someone on this site even care lol?

This thing seems to be picking up steam, it is exciting. I have a boatload of emails, a lot of those ones where they send you a photo and it has a zillion emails listed in it. Lot and lots of us probably do.

hey i'm wondering if anyone can give some good advice on how to step down in the safest way.. i have served as an ms for a number of years, but can't do it anymore.
i know too much i want to fade in the future when i get some family things straightened out.
i can't move right now so that's out unfortunately.. what should i tell the body?
Yes I have. Re that point, my letter stated:
"I'm aware that you will need to consider this matter as a body and consult with the circuit overseer, as there are procedural matters that must be adhered to in these situations. I also know that you will want to meet with me and ask me to reconsider my decision, and “lighten my load” and let time go by, but that will not solve the problem and my decision has already been made. I thank you for respecting that."
And for the last three months low hours have been turned in (regardless of one month where I actually got more than the average) so that is my reasoning there.
