need help re 607 date

i am new to this.. i have a problem.

someone on my ministry asked me about the date that we hold so dear....607 bce and asked me to prove it to them.

this would not be a problem i thought as the f&ds would have solid basis for using such a date.

I was at the Daniel book study (during the lunar eclipse i REALLY wanted to see and Im sure Jehovah wouldnt have minded a break in a study to see his WONDERFUL creation at work) and the 1914 was brought back up.

Now I had read somewhere why did they not take the three and a half times (1260 days) "a day for a year" as they did with the 7 times? I cannot get a reasonable explanation as to this from the book "Pay Attention to Daniels Prophecy"

What gives them the right to convert 7 times into 2,520 years, yet 3 1/2 times into 1,260 days? Which is right? Surely if they insist on using the Ezekiel scripture (Ezekiel 4:6, Numbers 14:34)

28 Since the "seven times" are prophetic, we must apply to the 2,520 days the Scriptural rule "A day for a year" - Pay Attention to Daniels Prophecy, Chapter 6

Therefore according to WT thinking, then the three and a half times should amount to 1,260 YEARS and not days as they say.

Also, just because of the similarities of the prophecy of the three and a half times (1260 days) in Daniel 7:25 and 12:7 doesnt mean that they are the same prophecy. Daniel 12:7 is referring to the Great Tribulation? and Daniel 7:25 is talking about harassment under the rule of the 4th beast. Are these two events the same? Again, the book is cleverly avoiding the subject and answering with trickery.

Either that or Im just one of the bad guys not able to understand the "Truth" due to being evil and set aside for destruction, a goat.

I thought the congregation that he was in was in the same circuit as me, turns out its not, Which is a shame. But still isnt all that far. Maybe one day i'll be in that area, and if i can i'll look him up as I'd love to speak to him about what he found out.

this seed thing and the 144,000 has me confused

Genesis 22:17-18 reads:
17 I shall surely bless you and I shall surely multiply your seed like the stars of the heavens and like the grains of sand that are on the seashore; and your seed will take possession of the gate of his enemies
18 And by means of your seed all nations of the earth will certainly bless themselves due to the fact you have listened to my voice'

Maybe im missing something very obvious here... but i've highlighted the bits that stick out.

There are a lot more than 144,000 stars and grains of sand...

I think the Watch Tower have sucessfully fulfilled 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

They have mis-applied scriptures and caused an apostasy. Im sure that God doesnt want a group of imperfect people as a mediator between us and the mediator who is already there.

And in the Genesis scripture, it also doesnt say anything about different types of blessings the seed will bring.

It doesnt make sense to me, but then again a lot of Watch Tower material is making less and less sense the more I study it

Great Tribulation

the biblical text of matthew 24:21 speaks of a great tribulation that, unless cut short, no flesh would be saved from.

jehovahs witnesses have often applied that scriptural text as having a major and minor fulfillment; one fulfillment associated with jerusalems destruction in 70 ad and a later fulfillment just prior to the end of this worlds system of things.

I am convinced that the Great Tribulation has not yet happened, but it could very well be linked to the fast approaching Third World War.

Think about it, it will destroy so many people, If atomic warfare carries on to its full extent, the earth will become totally uninhabitable. Hence, if its not cut short, no flesh will be saved. WW3 WILL be nuclear, it will be orchestrated by Satan in an attempt to totally destroy Jehovah's creation.

The aftermath will be devestating, all the sicknesses and diseases from the fall out. The climate will be destroyed. Thankfully, the earth is able to regenerate itself.

But faith in Jehovah should get us through this when it happens. I dont think ANYTHING can be worse than a global atomic war. And Jehovah will NEVER allow it to be repeated. Bringing truth to Jesus words.

Thats just my opinion. It makes sense though.

Definitely. Its the organisation bearing the Divine name. As MDS said elsewhere, they will undergo just punishment, but will be healed.

I still attend meetings but its not the same now. I can never see myself publishing the news, i wont go out in Jehovah's name and preach erroneous doctrine.

And i'll NEVER be baptised while that 2nd question remains as it is.

hey all, hope you're having a great year so far.. before witnet was closed down, there was an interesting discussion regarding the fds and their failed prophecies.

i asked a question, but unfortunately there wasn't enought time to get everyone's view.. so i'll rephrase my posts, and wait to hear from y'all.. if we are so quick to say that the fds is a false prophet because of some failed prophecies (even tho they say they don't prophecy, we all know better) then how would you explain the bible book of jonah?.

a faithful prophet, jonah, followed (after much trial and tribulation to himself) jehovah's command to declare destruction on the city of nineveh.

Sorry if this has already been covered, but could it be that Jesus said "Who REALLY is the faithful and discreet slave...", because he knew there would be a group claiming (falsely) to be this?

From my experience today, the "FDS" didnt really "feed" me properly, i feel even more spiritually "hungry".

After re-reading the scripture, im not at all convinved it related to who we are led to believe it is. I think it relates to ALL of Christs slaves on earth.

Cleverly, the "FDS" have exhalted themselves over the rest of the JW's, we have to OBEY these "slaves" - this is not right is it?

Maybe im just confused. I dont know.

Other Life

sorry if this topic has already been posted.. looking at size of the universe i cannot belive that we are the only life in it.

why would god create this enormous universe and then only use one minute planet?.

does anyone have any thoughts?.

maybe they repopulated the earth when they destroyed Mars's natural habitat, maybe we are martians. Theyve found ice on moons of Jupiter, and suspect theres an ocean underneath it. Just because water exists there doesnt mean theres life there.

I dont think that it matters either way, everything was still created. Jehovah is still God.

I too think that we are the prototype. It just went wrong when Satan wanted it all, but with him out of the way, then there will be countless inhabited paradisiac planets, and who knows, we might even travel amongst them all, after all, we will have all eternity.
