I think the problem with these buildings are that they are cash-pits. They require maintenance, upkeep. Even with volunteer work, supplies for maintenance and utilities still have to be paid. Better to liquidate than to continue pouring money in on something with diminishing returns.

The most important piece of info, IMO, is how much will sea levels rise in the foreseeable future.

No one will deny the melting ice sheets.

MsGrowingGirl, now is the time to find what you like, what you want to do. Everything upto this point has been screened for you. Avoid higher education, pioneer, everyone not JW is to be avoided, study our publications, prepare for meetings, prepare for preaching. The list goes on and on of what they had programmed all of us to do.
Like all have said here, take a breather.

The Tower of Babel - Languages: Isn't this story unhinged?
by james_woods inbesides the obvious fact that it is historically ridiculous - can anybody make any sense out of this story?.
god was somehow afraid that man was developing too much technology?
just because they were building a tower?.

First, I think anybody with any reason can see that this is not how the various human languages developed. For one thing, some of the most common languages on earth today (English being a prime example) are far too modern to have come from some Babel myth.
Thank you for bringing this up. Languages that exist today evolved. There is no supernatural source required. It is well documented.
But Second - my real point was beyond that. The point was that there is simply NO LOGICAL REASON for god to have done this to the tower builders. It actually makes god look childish and mean - and then, beyond that, it DID NOT WORK. Technology, including pyramid building etc. TOOK PLACE ANYWAY even with different languages, and apparantly god made no further efforts to stop it.
Or, as has been said by many on here already, we've already been to the Moon. Outlaw said something funny about it a while ago, I just don't remember exactly what it was.
I think it was that the higher you move up floors in Bethel, the more languages are spoken. 1st floor you start off with English. By the time you've reached the 20th floor, no one understands each other anymore.

Universal Sovereignty Doctrine, re-examined.
by Knowsnothing inhey all.
what do you guys think about the issue of universal sovereignty?
that was one of the doctrines i thought i would never doubt in, but looking into it more, there are a lot of holes in it.

Maybe it was mass slaughter of others, but it wasn't good and He knew it. When we see something will go terribly wrong with our kids actions we intervene.
That's not a good explanation, IMO. Then what of all the other mass slaughters throughout history? Where was the intervention then?

What's up with that is that it is not about universal sovereignty.
If it were, then He would have left the Israelites to Pharoah. Instead God intervened on behalf of those who belong to Him.
Peace,
tammy
In your opinion then, what is the reason Adam and Eve were allowed to live, if not for Universal Sovereignty?

Hmmm... Let's see.... Take the Roman Empire for example. Started off as a Republic, became and Empire and ended in civil war and invasions from the barbarians. You say that God has allowed humans to prove their worth as rulers? In this modern age, do you think that humans have proved to be worthy rulers? Consider Rwanda. Frankly speaking, history of humankind has been just a repeat of the same old screwups. What do you think??
I think humans would've had a fighting chance without certain impediments. The very impediments I argue about.
Genesis 11:5-7 5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”
Again, more interference. Jehovah wasn't satisfied with humans doing their thing, trying to answer the question posed in Eden. They seemed to be prospering, but down he swoops and destroys their progress.

Froma purely biblical perspective, the Tower of Babel shows that God is not just watching to see who can rule better.
Exactly. That's the whole point. He intervenes and sabotages human rule. What's up with that?
