  Rules, rules and more rules!

  i've already stated that baseball was my religion as a kid and sports has been number one in my life.

  i've played close to forty years in competitive golf, thirty years in the amateur ranks the rest in the pro ranks.

  If you think that the org. has lots of rules then I suggest you don't take up competitive golf because it would make the society's rules look like child's play.

  Hey, I'll take your word for it... but I just wish I had been allowed to play by the rules in sports, any sport(!), than be subjected to the JW rules as a kid. I was asked a couple of times to participate, but was not permitted. The weird thing is, my older sibling was given permission to play competitive sports (volleyball, track, basketball, swim team and I'm sure I might have forgotten one or two, lol). Now how do you like them apples? Sheesh! One thing I learned early on, life just ain't fair sometimes. But I try to look at the bright side of things (I'm glad at least one of us kids was given the freedom to play team sports) and I do have a lot to be happy about now.

  i just returned home from the kingdom hall.

  i am an elder.. after the meeting all the elders were called to the back room.

  i thought this was an impromptu elders' meeting.

  when i first read this, i had an epiphany.

  i decided right then and there that if the bible is from some divine being(s), then i am definitely one the the "other people" and none of what is contained in it applies to me.. .

  Thanks, BlackMan, your bttt was very timely for me. Today I viewed part of a mini-series hosted by Jon Voight, The Genocide Factor -- and I wondered (in light of the documentation of mass murder that I was watching) how was it possible to reconcile genocide with the existence of an all powerful, loving God.

  Hours of work, to get those talks right, and most people were not listening

  i remember one time i worked on a talk about a week.

  looking up points, cross referencing ideas, and then i get up there and i just knew most people were either asleep mentally or not paying any attention.

  who could blame them, i set in the front row doing microphones and i could hardly keep my eyes open.

  How does one get marked?

  ok, i've been involved with jw's for 15 years or so, but i've not been deep enough into any "clicks" to know how someone gets "marked".

  will someone explain?

  i'm sure i must have been marked more than once for stupid reasons - only going to 2-3 of the 5 weekly meetings (hey, some of us do have to do laundry every now and then), not commenting enough (they wouldn't want to hear my comments now), not going out in service enough, etc.

  being marked is one of those funny things, where they don't tell you, but they tell everyone else. there's 'special needs' talk, and then everyone feels free to 'warn' (gossip to) all the brothers and sisters they know.

  There it is, right there in a nutshell.

  Seventeen years after the fact, people at the KH were still engaging in malicious, smug, and cruel gossip about an attempted rape of a close female relative.

  Another interlude

  in the course of my "life story" posts, the life stories of others have, or are, coming, to an end.. first, and foremost, the wife of my youth is now at her deathbed.

  she suffered many pains because of my own inabilities to relate to other people.. how i wish i could touch her hand and express my feelings to her...but the constraints of life prevent me from so doing.. i wish her nothing less than the best and safest and most painless passage to whatever that awaits her.. .

  and, don whiteman has died.. now that he has died, i will name his name.. he was an integral part of my bethel expectations.
