Literature being discontinued, including Isaiah's Prophecy and Reasoning book
by Richard_I incongregations get an annual letter that tells what can be ordered for literature (it's mainly a list of audio cds/dvds for the deaf), but this time it included publications that will be discontinued, and this included the isaiah's prophecy book and the reasoning book, and i think i saw the draw close to jehovah book.
i meant to take a picture of the letter but forgot.
the branch is only going to give what they have on stock, when that stock depletes that's it, you won't be able to order those publications anymore.. this is in canada so i don't know if this is worldwide..

d4g: It's called revisionist history, and the WT, as well as all authoritarian regimes are masters at it.
“He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.”― George Orwell, 1984>>
No, it's not revisionist history it's stopping printing certain old books.
if it was revisionist they would tell everyone to destroy everything over 10 years old, then say 'we have always believed x y or z '

Jehovahs witnesses fastest growing religion, my ass.
by Crazyguy inthey the wt are always stating this, yet let's look at just one set of figures.
the average birth rate in the world is roughly 18 babies born per thousand.
the catholics have a membership of roughly 1 billion members.

they don't claim to be the fastest growing religion?? Unless you have a reference to prove to the contrary. -

its hardly trying to rewrite or destroy the past. They are just stopping printing some books. If they were really trying to destroy the past they would do things like tell congregation libraries to destroy all books past a certain age, or encourage publishers only to keep stuff x years old.
How is stopping printing some things trying to erase a history??

Transfer of Bank Balances and Kingdom Halls.
by kramer intwo things related to ongoing comments regarding forgiving of loans / transfer of balances to the wtbs and the ownership of kingdom halls.
firstly, i would argue that congregations don't care that bank balances have been transferred to the society.
i would contend that people contribute to the preaching work, and that's it , so long as there is enough in the bank to maintain the hall with a reasonable reserve, then i doubt many would argue against it.

@stgeorgeofengland, OK, they use a custodian trustee mechanism, widely used by lots of charities.
but why would the individual charities ever believe they own their own churches anyway? Publishers are just volunteers for a charity , they can no more claim ownership of a hall as can somebody that donates to a donkey sanctuary claim ownership of part of the stables. The society aren't 'stealing' anything as the publishers have never owned the hall. And even if they did any congregation would hand over ownership to the society if asked , if it's deemed to be needed

Two things related to ongoing comments regarding forgiving of loans / transfer of balances to the WTBS and the ownership of Kingdom Halls.
Firstly, I would argue that congregations don't care that bank balances have been transferred to the society. I would contend that people contribute to the preaching work, and that's it , so long as there is enough in the bank to maintain the hall with a reasonable reserve, then I doubt many would argue against it. If so why would they argue to hold onto money not being used? The exception to this are groups of congregations saving for a refurb / new hall, that have forwarded the balance , and now the LDC won't sort out the said work.
I noticed a comment regarding London, Chelsea's bank balance being transferred to the society. There is no need to hold £220k in the Bank for them , they can't rebuild (that would be way too expensive). It's the trustees legal responsibility to maintain reasonable reserves and to deploy the rest in charitable activity , either locally or internationally, as per their charitable objectives, so it makes sense to transfer it to the society.
Secondly, people are talking about transfer of ownership of halls to the society. Is it the case that this is happening? I genuinely don't know. However if it had happened I would have expected to see a substantial jump in the value of the fixed assets in the society's accounts, which hasn't happened (in the UK anyway) . Is this really happening, or just in certain countries/ situations?

Can somebody explain the songs and songbook obsession?
by careful ini've been out a while and have only put in a rare appearance at a memorial or brief visit at a convention/assembly to keep people off my back, so i haven't kept up on the songbook.
but one thing i've noticed that the org.
has been doing that they never did when i was in is all these "supplemental songs" that keep appearing.

It's just that distribution is easier now. Before records or tapes would have to be sent out to congregations, and new song books printed. Now songs can be available to everyone at a much lower constant pretty much instantly. And with a majority moving to electronic devices now (in the developed world) - or soon will do, no need for mass reprints. -
